I posted this in the 1/4 mile forum but got no replies, so i will try it here. When you guys race do you keep your foot on the gas while you shift? I have heard of some people doing this, i think they call it powershifitng. I would imagine it would not too very good for your tranny and clutch and dont know if it would help either. Just curious...

 

I would think it would put a lot of wear on your clutch. Because it will have to immediately grip because your not even letting your foot off the gas.

 

yeah, thats known as powershifting, and its not good for your tranny at all. I don't think most people do that.

 

Sometimes I try it to see if it will help my times any. It doesn't seem to. If you are quick enough with the clutch, gas, and shifter it won't make any difference. If you are slow at shifting it might help a little bit.

 

I definately think that the trany can't take too many missed 2-3 shifts during powershifting

 

That thats what i figured, that if you are good at shifting its not going to make a difference. And just hurt your tranny.

 

nope. Foot comes off the gas when i shift

 

na thats not power shifting but i dont know the name of it, my boy did this with his peice of **** civic and it didnt help him much, and it puts lots of wear on the clutch cause its like dumping the clutch between every gear.

 

I never lift.

That's why I can't launch worth a sheit. My foot thinks it's an auto and just goes to the floor. I've given up on trying to change my habit.

New tranny here I come! Maybe that's why my clutch seems to slip w/19K miles.
