What size of pulley for Newbie SC
What size of pulley for Newbie SC
Hello!
I am going to order my new SC pretty soon. I would like to know that what size of the pulley I should use. I have 98 Auto upgrade with most thing except DON VB mod, I had Transmisiion cooler and oil coller installed already. I don't want to push my car too hard and I want to use it last long with SC. What else that I should upgrade for my car and what size of pulley I should use? Oh! Is there any problem that I can expect to have after installing SC ?

stock pulley 6psi, I believe 3.33 up to 8psi 3.25 pulley up to 10PSI
just order some metal ASP pulleys and a BOV and youll be alright

you can go with smaller pulleys like 3.25, 3.125 and adjust your boost with the BOV.

of course you dont want to start with a peak boost of 13 psi. so you can start with a small pulley loose the bov to 9 psi. Once you are sure that your car is ready for more...all you have to do is tighten the BOV a little bit more.
not pointless at all...unless you love to do pulley swap.

If you have a pull type BOV like HKS SSQ, and Apex twin chamer, I don't think loosening it will make a difference. My BOV are heard at 4psi and their really heard at 15. So your method wouldn't really work w/ certain BOV's Even on the loosest setting, my HKS will still hold over 15 psi. BTW, I have HKS SSQ's

It took a lot of time to change the pulley and Y2KevSE decided to use a small pulley so I can play around with the amount of boost. With a small pulley, you boost faster and earlier. I dunno if my car is ready to handle more thatn 10psi.
there is a amount that you can let go. I wont try to aim for 6 psi with a 2.87 (default 13psi).
one of the downsides is our V2 s-trim can only handle certain pulleys. V2's max impeller speed is 50,000 rpm. I think 2.87 is already passing its limit after 5000 engine rpm.
btw, I have a simple BOV, greddy.

so how much does it cost to upgrade the blower to SQE trim?
Craig : v1 and v2 s-trim both have the same limit, 50k. I agree with you....smaller pulley means adding more work to the blower.
GoldenGlory : ?? you want me to change your pulleys?

Check the numbers.

do you have the diameter of our crank pulley?
I remembered that I use this
http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...pspeedv-2.html
to calculate the impeller speed. It maxed out at 5300 engine rpm.

6.25 in the iner diameter that matters. And the 2.87 clearly works I have it , kev had it, and others have it.

shift point of 6200-6300
supercharger pulley of 2.87
impeller speed at the outside is
50690.-- within the 53000 maximum limit.

Sometimes the auto doesn't shift that early.
