Pulling 3 cars ahead of a car with 240 HP sounds like BS - sorry, no offense.

Maybe he wasn't racing you and poker-faced you into it.

auto to auto older M3 vs 03 Max SE is truly a drivers race, no doubt about it!

There are corny BMW owners who have 318's and put M3 bumpers, mirrors and badges on them. It could of been the 4 cylinder which is slow.

A 2K3 can and will spank those older M3s any day of the week. The previous generation M3 is a whole other story. Only a 6-speed Max will give it any sort of race. By the way, those older M3s really stick to the road but are really underpowered.

That's a first generation M3 from approx. 1986-88. Less HP and weight than you, so still a fair race.

I don't know about the older M3s but the recent models have the signature 4 exhaust tips... I saw an previous generation BMW with two exhaust tips on the left side of the rear, and M3 badging... you can immediately tell its just a badge and not an actual M3. I'm sure you can spank a 4cyl in your 6cyl on the highway... not much competition, even though it was badged as an M3 (yeah right).

I have an 89 European spec M3 and it is no match for my 2000 5-speed in a stop light race. However take it down a back road and the little 4 banger will walk away. My BMW tops out just a little shy of 140 MPH. Top end should go to the Max as well, not to mention much more comfortable to drive at speed.

I've driven a 1997 M3 auto and it was very quick. I would say that it should spank any stock Maxima.

Yea actually (just did some research) the 97 m3 came with 260 hp. But the 95 m3 came with 240 .. So basically the 95 m3 would be a tight race.

97 would be tight too...I took an S4 with my auto 03 SE.......and thats a 6 speed twin turbo 6 with 270hp......I still took the dude...he probably wasn't good at the linkage, but I still took him no matter what...

250 and they're heavier than stink. Not a fast car except to 60 since they don't have much wheel spin.

If it was an older m3, like the one on ebay, then you would have no problem beating it. Anything newer and I don't think the max can beat it on the highway, not by 3 car lengths anyhow...unless he wasn't racing.

Re: Re: Spanked an M3 today on the highway

The auto M3 will have an advantage in top end gearing, and the E36 M3 rated at 240 hp is notoriously under rated. I have a hard time believing that you pulled three car lengths if the guy was getting on it. No offense, but not much skill involved between a straightline highway race, especially in an automatic.
I have almost a harder time believing the other guy who walked a 6-speed S4 in your auto maxima. Well, maybe he stayed in 6th, who knows. But a stock S4 would have handed you your lunch with a proper downshift, if you were in a six speed then it is a different story.
Let me know when you guys walk that Z06, M5, E55, whatever. REMEMBER, YOU ARE THE ROADWARRIOR!

Bro, those things with an automatic do 60-100 faster than even the 6 spd maximas (yes, even when they are shifting and not leaving it in top gear). That is what they were designed for, Autobahn driving, accelerating from a moderate speed to a high speed. He wasnt giving it 100%.

Honestly people, do any of you have any idea what the specs of that car are? The last year they still made that body style was 1991. It is a 2.3 liter inline 4, 192hp, 170tq, 2867lbs, manual, rwd. Now, a 2k3 maxima has around 200fwhp and similar torque. Thats more at the wheels than the old m3 has at the crank, and all of you are saying BS?

Those older M3's handle like they are on rails.. I learned to drive stick shift in one . I think it was an 89 or something like that. They are undcer powered, and have crappy shifters. Handling is wickkkeeed !

Its not that hard, I spanked a Lamborghini today.. I have an auto.. It was me versus my friend... We did this on his street. He was right beside me.. His poster of the Diablo was pretty nice.. so when i said go, he was running besides the car pretty good until i gased it.. then it was history. I pulled 250 cars away.

I agree. I don't think people are reading the post--they just see "M3" and assume it's a 95 or newer.

those things have 190hp, and a maxima would spank those...
