Hey thats pretty cool, was it just a LED bulb that needs to be changed?

Looks like you just pulled wire out, was it easy to do?

P.S. I also decided to make the backseat lighter 'hot' all the time (meaning always on even if car is off). I hated when my cell phone battery was dying & I can only charge phone while car was on
BTW: I dont recommend doing this unless you have 2+ hours to spare....here's a pic of what car looks like w/o middle console------->

Well actually the light in there is a bulb I believe its called a 74 like the 194 bulbs for the sidemarkers. They dont sell 74 blue bulbs that I know of so I just took off the green condom(its shown in below pic circled) that was over the bulb & took a blue sharpie marker & colored the bulb. I recommend letting it dry & repeat coloring the bulb like 5X. So far it works but not sure if it will eventully wear off so I'll keep this thread posted.
BTW: its very easy to do....just unscrew the 5 screws from under the steering wheel to gain access to bulb.

Can't ya just make it white then? I think that's what I'll do, take off the green condom and leave it white to match my hyperwhite int. bulbs :-)

I just tried this, I can only find three screws under the steering wheel and can't get the piece off, more detailed instructions please... I have a 2K2 if that matters.

i have a 2k1 & i'm pretty sure its the same...there should be 5 screws underneath steering wheel...then just un-snap the plastic cover to gain access to the ignition light

I,ve got my max in the garage and I've got two blue led's waiting to be used for something. I need to ckeck if the voltege is 12 volts (does anybody know). If it's 12 volts, then I'll just put on a 1000 ohm resister.

BTW, it looks coool

There are only 3 screws on the 2K2. After they're out, you need to gently seperate the top and bottom parts. After they're apart, the top just lifts off, but the bottom is tough to remove. I just pulled it out as far as I could. I was able to get to the bulb without fully removing the bottom part. Then just peeled the coating off and reassembled. Hope this helps.

It's fairly yellow...def not bright white, but I like it better than the green. My son said it looked a bit 'neon'.

I just used this same method to change the color of my instruments when illuminated, instead of white on black, they are now Red on Black, It looks really good imo, thanks K Pazzo 6, great idea.

It goes from 12.6 to 13.8 while charging and drops to 11 when you're starting engine. I'd suggest 510 Ohm for one and 330 Ohm if you connect two in series.

Most of them are and if you want to provide 20 mA current it requires 510 Ohm resistor in series. They will be just fine at 10 ma too, just less bright.

You could also wrap a thin blue sheet over the bulb. I remember someone did this with their dome light. They actually put the blue film on the inside of the cover but it's the same concept.

Just did this tonight. Man, it looks so much better than green. Luckily, my friend had some blue transparent sticker? He had it left over from his neons. I put some on the bulb itself and some on the white round thing where the bulb goes into. The bulb doesn't actually have to be blue. You can just put something across the opening. Sorry, my descriptions are vague. If you open it up, you might know what i mean. Anyways, the light comes out blue.
Thanks "K Pazzo 6" for the idea.

Good to see that I'm not the only one who did this. I bought a GEL pack at a local music store. I used the blue gel in the pack and cut it to cover the hole where the light was emitted from. So now the ring shows a dark blue, and will never fade. The whole procedure took about 45 mins to do. But that was me being careful and taking my time.

I also did this for the center overhead light bulb because there wasn't any other colors available for it. So I just wrapped the gel around the bulb. Takes like 10 mins (max) to do the overhead light.

I don't have pics of it, but I'll try to get some and post them on my homepage.

It's what DJs use to change the color of their lights. Basically, it's a colored piece of plastic called a GEL that is resistant to heat because of where it is used. Just go to your local music store and ask for a "GEL pack that is used for par cans". They'll show you what I'm talking about.

At the music store, it's not cheap. If you have an electronics surplus store, I'd try there first. My sheets were like $3.50 for 2 sheets (both were the same color) as compared to $20.00 for 5 sheets (each are a different color).

Kloogy and I just changed the bulbs today. I SWEAR I took my car out for a spin afterwards and my car feels faster. I dont know if it is the weight reduction of taking off the blue condom. But it feels faster. Thanks for the idea K Pazzo.
