Adv/Disadv of short throw shifter...

What are the advantages or disadvantages of a short throw shifter? I know the advantages are the shorter shift and tighter feel, but I've never really heard if there are any disadvantages. To those of you who have it, how do u like it?

i will tell you this.. i can't drive my cousin(s) 97 and 99 5spds anymore, I am missing gears. My STS is so smooth and easy to get into gear. I don't know how you guys shift with that baseball bat

Same impression here. My STS is so much better. When people try and drive my car they cant believe that the car goes into gear so easily and so short.

PROS:
Shorter shifting.
Nice low shifter.
Sportier feeling.

CONS:
Once it heats up, for some reason it gets really hard to get into gear, I could shift faster with the bat. I think it is the heat shield, but I felt I banged it out pretty good, I have banged it out twice now, next step is raising the shifter a little, it is in the lowest position possible.

Pacesetter, and it is really uncomfortable and irritating to drive, I hate it when it gets like that, you have to JAM it into gear and I know it isnt the tranny cause it did it before and after the rebuild.

My theory: Heat expands the metal and make it rub. If I put it in neutral, I can feel it rub across the top.

I think I am going to take the shield off, what do you think?

Also, do you have yours in the lowest position?

You really don't need to unless you want it really short for some (cosmetic) reason. I agree that my SMC shifter gets harder to shift at times, but it's also at or near the very bottom. Overall I prefer my STS to the rowboat OEM, especially when racing/autocrossing.

I'm with Sprint on this topic. I will never go back to the truck-like OEM shifter. I have a Pacesetter set at 3/4 and I love it

The ONLY downside I can think of is because you don't have as much leverage on the shifter you need more force to put it thru the gates... But that extra force needed is soooooooooo minimal compared to the way it compensates for the sloppyness of the tall shifter. I have the B&M and it sort of clicks cleanly and tightly thru the gears, its awesome... Check out my homepage for pics.
