Clear side marker?

I just put clear side markers on my car! I gotta say they look better in person on Majestic Blue than they do in pictures. Took me a year and a half to take the plundge and buy them. However in VA white bulbs are illegal. I didn't realize the rear bulbs are white...

Here is my problem though there is some play in the bumper cut-outs and the clear markers themselfs. I noticed on the factory markers that there are some black rubber pieces which probably makes the factory markers more flush with the bumber and solves the play between the bumper and the sidemarker. Any suggestions on how to solve the looseness in the rear sidemarkers... I'm afraid there will be condensation build-ups and blown bulbs since water could buld-up in that area.

are you sure they are fully popped in?? I had that problem with mine in the front but I noticed that they weren't 100% in there...I pushed in a little more, and they are tight...no condensation!

Remove the black rubber pieces off the original side markers and glue them on the clears in the same spots. It gets rid of the looseness and rattling. Where the clear outside plastic and the grey or white back part of the new lenses are made together, make sure you use silicone sealer on that seam. If not, 90% or greater chance you'll get condensation in the lense. Did this to mine two years ago, no condensation to date.

Just buy red bulbs for the rear or red LED's from any auto parts store.

I bought red led's from midnightmoose.com. You need the 194 wedge bulbs.

As far as condensation building up, there is a write up on it at the top of this forum. Basically you have to buy RTV silcone sealant and put a small coating where the two plastic pieces meat on the clears.

Okay so basically I should take the black rubber pieces off of the factory markers and glue them to the clears...duh! Plus buy some silicon sealant to put on the markers to ensure no condensation...I heard that so I gotcha.

The rear side marker uses a 194 wedge LED bulb is that the same for a conventional halogen bulb as well? I think the bulb size is on my factory marker but it's at home. I plan to go to the autoparts store and hardware store during my lunch break so if someone can tell be the bulb size I'd appreciate it!

Both the front and back use 194 bulbs. I got mine from Autozone, they were $2.99 for a set of 2 reds. I didn't need to get the amber ones because my front set came with them but they were the same price if you need them. And I also resealed mine with clear silicone before installing, no condensation yet.

Before you go through all the trouble I would make sure they are fully in. I have had the clear ones on front & back for over 2 years with no extra work & no problems.

Even better, don't put any bulbs in at all. I didn't bother with them, looks smooth and no one hassles me for it. Older cars didn't have bulbs often times if they had any side markage at all.

Is it legal to go without bulbs or to change the color? Does this differ from state to state? I've been using the regular amber in the front/red in the back under my clears but I'd switch them to all hyper-whites if it was legal.

Okay fellas I went out and bought red 194 wedge bulbs from Pepboys for 3.99 the pack include some other bulbs too for the rest of the car but I don't plan on using those. I went to Lowes and bought some clear silicone sealant. I put a thin layer of silicone on the edges of the side markers, but I think I may put some on the back as well.

I let it dry for an hour and then I ran some water down the side of the bumper where the side markers are and the water ran through the creases of the bumper and the side marker and drained off. To be on the safe side though I think I will see if there is any water build up on the inside bumper. I have installed the bulk of the aftermarket stuff on my car (everything except Wheels and tint) and I must say the sidemarkers are the most tedious of them all! Fast process but still tedious!!!!

I didn't find it to be tedious at all. The worst part was definitely the clear silicone. It took me 2 or 3 coats to make sure I got a good seal because each time it dried it could see little holes that would allow moisture through, so I had to fill in those holes with more silicone and let it dry. So that took some time. But as far as installation goes, I had all 4 on the car in 5 minutes. Definitely worth the trouble though if it keeps the clears dry and looking good!

Yeah the rears where the most tedious because they where a bit harder to pop out and the rear markers just don't seem to be as big as the factory so there is still some movement there. I am going to put another coat of silicone on them. However yesterday I had some excess silicone on the bumper and on spots around the car. Took some elbow grease to get them off but I agree well worth the hassle. My Maxima seems like a new car all over again and it stands out from the crowd I am going to get some pictures taken of the car now with the clears. I think I have the cleanest Maxima in the country!
