Hello out there, the time has come for new tires (stockers barely made it to 40k...). And I was wondering what a good compromise between tire grip, all season traction, and 50,000+ mile durability rating.

People seem to like the kumhos also, and at 100ish a tire, you can save over 400 bucks. not too bad, then spend that dough on other mods...

 

I just purchaced the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and am VERY impressed with the wet traction! We had some serious downpours today so driving on the freeway would have been treacherous with the OEM Bridgestone Potenza's - it was easy to hydroplane with those things. Not once did I hydroplane with the Michelins today - very impressive! The grip was outstanding through the wet, twisty roads too. Yes, I spent a small fortune to get them but when I thought about it, the tires are the only part of my car that actually come in contact with the road so why not get the best? By the way, treadwear rating is 400 although I doubt they will last 50,000 miles.

 

Sears just had Sumitomo HTR+ on sale for 114 each and the pilot sport A/S is just marginally better. Save about $400 and go w/ those.

OR....

Continental just put out (dont' know when, but heard they're new) ContiExtreme tires that you can get for $128 at discount tire w/ free lifetime balance and rotation. Check tirerack...buyer reviews have them rated higher than the P. Sport A/S and the HTR+.

Only downside is that they only come in 235/45 and the michelins come in 225/50. There's a thread (should be page 5 or so), called "HTR+ vs. contiextreme". it's got a link to the tirerack test.

 

The HTR's are $95 each at TireRack.com . I ordered 4, with shiping to New York, the total came up to $416. Not bad for a whole set.
