Will a leak in the exhaust affect gas mileage?

Hi,

I’ve been battling this gas mileage problem on my ’91 GXE, I get about 17mpg in the city. I’ve done everything from tuneup to changing tires and changing O2 sensor. I have a leak at the exhaust manifold gasket and I’m wondering if that could in any way affect the gas mileage.

i'd assume so because it would throw off the O2 sensor readings.

Believe me, it can make a huge difference.

I can actually be under the car and see the gasket is offset. My car used to do over 400 miles on a full tank, now I only do 300 miles.

I have a leak in my flex pipe and its killing me. I kill a 1/4 tank goin to work and back (about 25 miles and also because I drive some-what above the speed limit). And it smells like rotten eggs when I'm in park . I remember back in the day when my 4dsc wasn't such a glutton. hhhhaaaaa....memories.
