Car almost left me at school today

I have been having problems when i put my brakes on my lights dim and here lately its gotten worse i mean its really bad. Well on the way to school today my receiver cut off a couple times and then wheni got out of class i used to unlock on my remote and unlocked my doors and b/c of the 87 degree weather and black interior my car is hot so i rolled the windows down with the remote. Well i get in my car and its dead. No power at all i checked the battery it was connected just fine and tight i messed with things for a whiel and nothing would work. I sat in my car about to call home and then my doors locked and then everything worked.
Can anyone explain this?

You, my good friend, have a dead alternator!

I hope you are a 97-98 and you fall under the recall...I had mine $hit out on me about 3 weeks ago, and got it replaced in an HOUR for FREE, from my local Nissan Dealership

This has been a problem with dying charging systems and batteries in the Maxima. Have your battery load tested at a place like Advance Auto or Autozone. Also have your charging system checked out.

As fo the dimming lights, everyone has that problem. The best way to combat that is to put in a hyperground (just extra grounding wires from the battery and the alternator), and a 0.5 or 1 Farad capacitor in parallel to your battery.

No my dimming is excessive i mean other cars probably notice it. My battery is strong b/c i can leave my radio on when the car is off and it can play for hours and hours with no prob. As for the recall, i had mine replaced about a year ago.
