Odd problem

This problems happens every 4 to 5 days, when I start my car everything shuts off it doesn't start and my key gets locked in the ignition. All the power goes out because once I do start the car the stereo's memory is reset and so is the clock on my dash meaning there was no power. The odd part of this is that I get the car started by leaving the key in the ignition(as oppose to wrestling it out), closing my door, locking it and then opening it. Once I do this the security icon on my gauge lights up(which is always does when the car is off and the door is open) and I'm usually able to start the car, there have been instances where this has not worked and I have to disconnect and reconnect the battery, this work also.

What could the problem be?

When you say that "everything shuts off", are you saying that you have NO power to ANY accessories...headlights....etc? If that's the case, then you certainly have a battery connection problem...power distribution....such as ground to the frame - for one.

The other thing that comes to mind is since there seem to be many things effected by this problem, the ECM is most likely the culprit. I would start by disconnecting the battery and reseating all connectors on the ECM. If that doesn't do the trick, then it's time to break out a factory service manual and the voltmeter.

Exactly, no power at all. I checked wires leading to the battery and found one that was kinda of torn I used some electrical tape and taped it up. HOPEFULLY that was it, because this has been driving me completely crazy.

Now I gotta locate the ECM.

So this is what I gather from various searches.

1. To disable the alarm I need to cut some wire that's located under the steering wheel. What color?

2. To reset the ECM I just disconnect the positive battery cable and leave it that overnight?

I tried pulling the fuse under the hood for the alarm but that didn't work.
