Knocking Noise - Maybe there is hope!
Knocking Noise - Maybe there is hope!
As some of you know that replied/read my last few posts my timing chain has been knocking, according to the good old search feature everyone says is the design of the 95/96 models and I'll need to replace my tensionor/guides and the chain SHOULDN'T NEED TO BE replaced...
I found a mechanic who would do the job for $200 + whatever needs to be replaced.. What do you guys think? $200 + Tensionor/Guides compared to the $900 other places were charging me... He said it could even be the water pump but wasn't sure, either way he's going to take it apart and find out before we purchase any parts...
Need some maxima knowledge what do you guys think? Tensionor and Guides, is that all I would need to replace? Anything I might be better off replacing since he will be already in there?? Sorry for making it long.. Thanks

Uhm, nope, once I got it it stayed there and never went away unfortunatly.. :| Dont know why it skipped the start for me? Maybe I did get the start but I never noticed? Either way I hope to get rid of it so I can have some fun with a silenced vq30de on friday night! I'll let you know what needed to be replaced/etc.. once its done.

The timing chain doesn't knock, it rattles upon startup then usually goes away. Might be your water pump, might be a connecting rod bearing too. Have your oil analysed by a lab to see if you have any bearing damage.
its not like a knocking its like a grinding sound like if you rub some metal really fast.. it has a knock effect to it as well, knock,knock,grind,knock,grind,grindgrind,knock.. =\.. lol dunno the mechanic guy will figure it out.. thats what he's paid for.

Not in phase 3
. It really starts bangin around. And if your that far gone I find $200 may be a low ball....beware of hidden costs!
