Where is the sound coming from? Is it engine speed dependent? Do you hear it with all of your accessories off? 'buzzing sound' is too nondescript to be able to help you out here. Maybe it's just a loose trim piece.

When it does happen, can you change the pitch or volume of the sound by revving the engine?

nope the pitch does not change at all, one time out of the 5 or so times its happened i revved and the sound went away, but all the other times it stayed but just for that one point where i came to the stop, and then it went away after i was going again and it wouldnt happen again at the next stop

Actually...this is odd but perhaps you have a slightly different flavor of the exhuast noise that I had. It drove me nuts until I got it to fail in my driveway. Just for grins, try it out.
Set the e-brake firmly and then gently ease out the clutch in 1st and 2nd and feather the gas to see if you can make the noise while stationary. I also had to hit reverse a few times but finally got it. If this works, you'll have a much much much easier time isolating the sound. If it doesn't, try it without the ebrake, in a parking lot or something where you can repeatedly start and stop with someone outside the car listening. I had to lay down next to a speed bump while my buddy drove his truck back and forth over it so we could find where the suspension problem was.

Cheers,

JK

when i hit the gas the sound will normally go away... so if i feather the gas and let out in 1st 2nd or reverse it is going to go away ... but i'll give it a shot, i appreciate the help joaquink it also seems that the sound comes as something spins, it gets loud then quiet then loud then quiet.... i can't pin point it at all

Weird Noise

Hi Guys,

I have been using the forum as a guest for years to find almost everything about my maxima here. So under the weird noise stickys and cannot find what the noise that I am hearing is. So when the car is started or at a stop I hear this weird groaning noise from inside the car almost like a pulsing sorta louder then lower noise. Like someone is slowly killing a robot lol. I am not sure what it could be as the car is functioning just great. Brakes are fine and the sound does not seem to be noticeable at all when driving only when first started or at a stop. Would the master boot cylinder make this noise? I have a 96 GLE and I love my car even tho its 17 years old and looks and runs great. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

It could be the radiator fan, mine started to make a buzzing noise whenever I had the AC on or if I was stoped a light. I changed it last week and haven't heard a noise since.

Just in case a 10 year bump is a record, I want to be part of it...

Unreal, I think what you're describing gets referred to a "droning" noise. I get that too at times. To me, that's entirely different from a buzzing, which is a higher sound, like what I get from my front dashboard. (I think the defroster vent causes it.) The droning is much lower in pitch. It sounds like it's coming from the front left side of the car, but I can only hear it from the driver's seat. I can't hear it if I'm standing beside the car.

There are some threads about that here, but I don't think anyone has solved it yet.
