Check out my school project...e-maximas.net

Just thought I'd share my work with you guys. My assignment for my web design class was to create a website in an online magazine format, so I chose to do an online magazine for maxima enthusiasts! It's called e-maximas.net. We weren't expected to do all the writing for the project, so I borrowed some info from various places. I am NOT taking credit for the write ups. I also borrowed a few pictures.

Click here to view my website

You'll need the flash plugin, and either IE or Netscape to view the site properly.

Thanks guys, and I would've either credited the writeups or gotten permission if the site was open for the public, which it's not.

Some critique coming from a designer/multimedia artist:

Overall your design sense is very impressive. Your color palette is pretty damn good. A lot of people enjoy that color palette because it's really easy on the eyes.

The format is pretty darn effective and better then some of the stuff i've done recently (although that's because my clients give little liberty with design).

I know it's only a web project for class, but assuming you'd be able to get permission to post stuff, this could turn into a great weekly/monthly/bi-monthly eZine and can probably get attention from companies wanting to advertize. Or you can just make it an e-mail HTML zine with links.

The Flash fonts don't really go well with the main text font, but that's always the crappy part about not knowing who has what fonts. Other than the font thing, I'd like to see that flash "Select Maxima" menu thing be something that you can click on the different gens to bring up a details sheet about the car for people unfamiliar with it.

With everyone going completely Flash nowadays (like myself.. but for the font situation), it's hard to find people that can use tables as well as you did.. even if it might've been as easy as doing it on Dreamweaver.. the efficient color and design choices pay the bills.

Awesome job!

-Mario

P.S. Swing by my site www.mjmachon.com (ignore the "interact" section as that was for a class assignment) and http://djjesseo.mjmachon.com (current project) and feel free to tear the sites apart if necessary. Don't want to ***** this thread so anyone can PM me any comments instead of posting here. Thanks.

Topdaytrader...you have mail

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I really like having unbiased opinions/critique on my work. Thanks especially to max002 for your critique...you sound like you know your stuff. Good idea about being able to choose the different generations of maximas to see details on them. I had many, many ideas for this site which I never even explored, because ultimately it was a school project, and I didn't spend as much time on it as I would have if it were a paying site, or a published site.

Mario, you're not the first person to suggest that I actually open this site as a public site. I have been considering it, but not sure if I have time to manage a weekly or bi-weekly e-magazine on top of school, work, and my other customers.

No problem man, feel free to e-mail me at mjmachon#sbcglobal.net if you ever need some advice or if you ever want to share something that might be groundbreaking. I've got several connections in the graduate world, so keep doing what you're doing and we'll see what happens.
