Help with Stock "security system" on 99 SEL HELP!
Help with Stock "security system" on 99 SEL HELP!
When I bought my max, I thought that there was no security system. I thought that the blinking security light only meant that the immobilosor system was working. I would hit LOCK on the key fob and the light would begin to flash. the parking lights would flash twice (no horn blowing) and that was it. I figured there was no "alarm" per se. So, i went out and bought an avital alarm and had it installed. Now, I noticed in the max owners manual, it always says "if so equipped" for specific features. It says that if you have the "theft warning" that the light will glow steady for 30 seconds and then start to blink. Mine only blinks from the minute I walk out of my car. YET I have the SE security and convienience package on the car, and on the list of things added, it says VEHICLE SECURITY SYSTEM. I would assume that means a horn blowing. DO I have the security system? Is it broken? I went out and put another alarm on the car. I hope I did not waste some money. Please help guys.
Re: Help with Stock "security system" on 99 SEL HELP!
You know what they say about assuming. Nissan chose not to have the horn sound as do many other stock security systems. But you do indeed have a stock security system if you have the "SE security and convienience package" on your car.
Actually, I have the same type of factory alarm symtoms here. I just bought a remote too, the unlock and lock and trunk features work, but the alarm doesn't go off. I tried opening the doors manually and no, the alarm doesn't sound. I installed a shock sensor, to the same effect. I'm relying on my kill switch for now.
You're shi^ting me about the horn not going off right? The panic button makes the the horn go off.

Put ur windows down and lock it from the stock key fob. Then wait at least 5 mins, then go over, unlock it from inside and it should go off, mine does, or pop the hood, or trunk, anything like that will set it off.
Hold down panic for at least 3 secs. if you want it to go off

My '98 does the same thing. Everything works but the alarm. I have tried setting it off, but like you said, my security light never holds steady to signify activation of the alarm. I wonder what is going on with these cars???
stupid question... what is "key fob" and secondly I dont now about the 99 max, but my 95 max has the security light witch automatically indicates security system. Alarm will go off if any door including the hood is opened without key or if the cylinders of the key whole are messed with, just no shock sensor. This past week i just added and 25 dollar shock sensor, and chnaged the security light to blue, and addded the buzzer to hear it beep when arming, goes well with the stock system
I bought my car used and it had the stock alarm on it too. However, I tried to use the fuctions on the remote and nothing worked... tried to shake the car to see if the alarm went off, opening doors... nope. So I just went ahead and got a viper alarm installed. The security light still blinks.. but thats all. So now I got two blinking red lights in my car when i'm away
99 SE-L aswell.

99 SE-L aswell.
You are right, stupid question...
The term "Key Fob" means "Your Car Remote" in layman terms. In other words, the little thingie that has four buttons, and allows you to access the car's lock/unlock and other features remotely.
