Do think it is ricey to paint your calipers to look like Brembo's? I mean, not everyone wants to spend $4000 for the look (as most of us will never really need the stopping power that Brembo's provide...)

Just curious as I am thinking of painting my calipers red with Foliatec...

I went with black. Not to sure about red calipers on a maxima, guess it depends on what rims and paint color you have. You can find pics on my homepage of the black.

I got mine red but I think im going to go next with body color calipers.

 

After I saw PMAS's Max, I definitely went with the Foliatec red and used his instructions to guide me. Check out my homepage... I think they look sharp, especially with a darker color max. It all depends on your 'theme' I guess.

Paint them Red and get those stickers that make it look like you have cross drilled rotors.

 

I'm going with a 'silver' theme....painted my RSB silver (tried to match the stock rims). I painted my calipers black last fall, but that was too subtle, so I went with silver. Sorry no pics, but they match the RSB and wheels pretty well. A bit more noticable than the black.

 

Is there any cheap paint brand that I can pick up locally that will work?

 

IMO painted calipers are

 

The reason that the paint costs as much as it does ($40 average for paint that will paint all four calipers in one session - if you are good enough, you can paint TWO cars at once with it)... is because the paint is airplane-grade enamel. It uses a reactant that solidifies the paint and makes it nice and tough. It can withstand the high temperatures, better than the cheapo paint you can find at Walmart.

Take my advice... if you paint your calipers, shell out the $$$ and do it right. Anything half a$$ed will show and not look as nice.

i used high-temp paint from an auto parts store, it came out pretty well and has been very durable:

 

My original black chipped off a bit during the winter, but I did not prime them first after cleaning them. I don't think the chips were from heat, but from stones, sand and salt. This time after cleaning them with brake cleaner, I primed them with flat grey and then did the silver. The silver was wheel paint.

We'll see how this holds up.

On my black 2K2, the silver looks better than the black I had before. See my post above...

 

Yeah the Teins would definetly close another inch of that gap. You wont regert the switch if you go with the Teins.

I am thinking about chroming my calipers...does that seem too ghetto or ricey???

That isnt the best of Ideas. I dont know about the heat issue, but even if it was chromed, the brake dust will completly cover it in a matter or a few minutes of driving. For a show car, its would look good but you would be wiping it clean every time you parked for it to shine a little while.

As for Sterling Mist... red looks best IMHO

 

oh, yeah, i forgot to mention... i sanded them down with a fine grit sanding pad after cleaning them with brake cleaner, and primed them with high-temp primer. i think that's the biggest reason why it's stayed in good shape.
