Run in w/ a Tractor Trailer.. What would you do? (server crapped out on last try)

Hi All..

Just thought I'd share with you one of my latest exploits.

So I’m on my way to work on RT 287 in NJ and I’m jamming to my music.. LA LA LA…. BOOOOOM!!!!! I frigggin get smashed from behind by a tractor trailer. Trashed my trunk, bumper and one of the tail lights.. See attached pictures.. Anyway.. I have no luck w/ this car.. now they’re gonna have to paint a new trunk, bumper, probably the roof and then they might say they need to blend in the doors, so in other words, my entire car would have been painted before owning it for 6 months (hood and both fenders got painted when the HID's were lifted). Maybe I should just get rid of the car and get a ’69 Camaro like I always wanted.. LOL..

Anyway.. What should I do. Someone said use the insurance money to get the car kitted out.. What kit would you all get? Anything else? Some crazy flip-flop or sumthin?

Thanks in advance..

Nick

Well, if you even have thoughts about getting rid of the car, DO NOT do anything other than returning it to stock form. Kitting it out or anything else will only contribute to lower resale.

When the insurance company pays for it, make sure you also hit them up for "diminished value" - i.e., the decrease in what someone will pay you on a trade-in or sale when they find out it's been hit. Don't know how to calculate that...maybe someone else here does (or your insurance agent). If not, I personally would start with $5k and let them talk you down to a "reasonable" $2,500, which feels about right.

I would fix the car, and trade it in. The car will never be the same again. Just the thought that it has been smashed makes you lose love for your car.(makes you feel like, why bother taking care of this thing, its been crashed). Thats how i would feel. And sue the ba$tard that nailed you. Sorry about the accident.

It just kills me, they're going to have to paint so much of the car to "blend in" the paint.. I just don't feel like taking the loss if I trade it back in. I'd probably loose out on about $5000.. Does anyone know if that depreciation thing is real?

With your color and a good body shop you will see no diference in your car after it's done.
It's not a big crash the job looks easy. You won't get anything from the insurance as far as diminished value.
However, if you don't do the repair by an authorized Nissan dealer they will void your paint/corrosion warranty.
The insurance will most likely want you to go to a garage that's approved by them.
You have the right to choose your own shop.
You also have the right to warranty on the repair.
Good luck.

I got rear ended about a month ago, not near as much damage. But the *pain and suffering* and *slightly* inflated repair estimate netted about over $1500 profit. Guess what's paying for my mods.

any good body shop that you are friendly with, should be able to bury the deductible and net you a profit...every accident I've been involved in, I always made out like a bandit

You've had to pay a deductible when in an accident that was someone else's fault? Did you not have Uninsured Motorist coverage?
