Air Bag light is flashing on and off... help!

hey guys:

as most of you know, i am selling my car to buy a 2001 AE maxima within this week. but i was driving around today and all of a sudden my airbag light on the speedo started to flash. so i pulled over and turned off my car, and then turned it back on, but it is still flashing. all day when ever i start my car the light just comes on. not only is this really anoying (i always see it in the corner of my eye) but like i said i am selling my car to the dealership very soon so i don't want them to see that light and knock alot of money off the price they are giving me.

i check my air bag fuses and they look fine. what the heck is the cause? why would it randomly just start flashing? i was not driving aggressively or braking hard or anything... any ideas? thanks...

I have the same problem with my maxima. There are steps on the .org to turn your key to the 'on' position and press the driver side door button 7 times within 5 seconds and then start the car or something like that to reset the light. The trick didn't work for myself..but worked for some others.

dude from what the mechanic at the dealer told me you cant turn the light off unless you have the right tool which would happen to be a obd scanning and diagnoses tool because the airbag is a whole separate system from the ecu......oh by the way the door light trick does not work

Open the driver's door. Note the rubber covered button, a button which is pressed by the door when the door is closed. This is the door switch.

Turn the ignition from OFF to ON. Press the door switch at least 5 times within 7 seconds after turning the ignition switch ON. Turn the ignition OFF.

Close the driver's door. Start the engine.

it did not work for me. i did it atleast 30 times... and i am sure it was not good to start and turn off the engine that many time in a short period of time. but i tryed and the most i got out of it was a sore arm/hand. but the light did seem like it wanted to go away, but it still flashed. like the light did not flash as fast or in a timed order. any other ideas guys?

NO NO NO, you don't turn the engine over! You simply put the car on the on position,Windows are able to roll up and down, where you accessories work. Now go try it. It worked for me.

I tried the drivers side door trick again and the light stopped blinking! But it returned when I started up the car again . Doesn't seem to want to come off any more.

but pocketrocket says to turn over the engine once the steps are completed... i'm confussed. here is his quote:

"Open the driver's door. Note the rubber covered button, a button which is pressed by the door when the door is closed. This is the door switch.

Turn the ignition from OFF to ON. Press the door switch at least 5 times within 7 seconds after turning the ignition switch ON. Turn the ignition OFF.

thanks Ed, always looking out for me! from what i have been reading this is not a easy or cheap problem to fix. some poeple can reset it, but others can not. they said that alot of people that have side airbags get the light alot, which generally means that the harness needs to be replaced. cost, $600. $600!!!!! wtf, this is the last thing i need right now, and it is the perfect chance for the dealer to knock off a grand off the price of the car. *sigh* my luck never changes. give me a call sometime Ed, i lost your #. ttyl
