man my signed markers are fogged up
how can i get rid of them

 

I'm guessing you didn't seal them with silicone before you put them on? Now that they have condensation in them there is a couple ways you can fix it...

1) Remove them and pack them in a bag with silica gels overnight. (The little packets that say "DO NOT EAT" that come in electronics, new shoes, and things like that.) The silica packets will absorb the moisture. I think you can buy this stuff at Home Depot or a store like that.

2) Same thing but pack them with rice. The rice will absorb the moisture, but it may take a little longer than the silica would.

3) Some people have advised using a blow dryer to heat them up and clear them out. I don't know how well this works, personally I would go with either #1 or #2.


Once you've got the moisture out, reseal them with some clear silicone around the edge where the clear lens meets the plastic. I got a small tube at Autozone for $2. Let them dry for several hours (overnight is best) and reinstall.

 

Personally, I would just remove them from the car and let them air dry with the bulbs out, shouldn't take too long on a dry day. Then reseal em. I'd be scared getting silica in em, how would you get it all out?

I've never done it (I sealed mine ahead of time to avoid this problem ), but I think the silica stuff comes in packets or something, it's not loose. So you wouldn't actually be pouring it into each marker, just putting some packets in a bag with the markers and closing it overnight. But yeah, if you're patient enough you can probably do like t56gen3 says and just leave them out until they clear up.

 

And, just outta curiosity---where did you buy yours? So far it seems that the Custom Maxima ones seem to be fogging up and the Ebay ones are not. Any other experiences?

 

I bought mine from Ebay. I'm not sure if they would have fogged up or not, but the seals looked kinda cheap so I figured I'd just do the silicone re-seal before installing them and save myself the headache down the road.

 

I was just wondering as I have an Ebay set on the way. *shrug*

 

my ebay ones haven't fogged..I never sealed em and don't plan on it either....they've been on for 3 months now with rain, car washes..no problems

 

I have the EBay ones from F1Sports... they don't fog. Just to be sure, though, it is good to get a dab of silicone from AutoZone (like BiggD said) and to transfer the black tabs from the stock ones so they fit snug.

I wondered for weeks why my rear ones didn't fit quite as nicely as the OEM ones did. They were in there and they looked good, but there was a little wiggle to them when you touched them. Sure enough, it was because I forgot to take those 3 little rubber tabs off the back of the old ones!

 

Yea, that part at the dealer is probably like $45

Use a razor blade to get them off, it will rip otherwise.
