Big brake kits

Stoptech Article

Say gang, those of you with the opinions or with your own big brake kits please take a glance at this article and give me your thoughts on the issue of big brakes and their possible negative effects on ABS operation. This article seems very informative but I'm not mech. engineer to confirm a lot of it....it does make me slightly concerned about purchasing one of the big brake kits available for the Max. It seems (correct me if I'm wrong) that most of the offerings out there do use one or two "generic" caliper setups without unique regard to a specific model vehicle...Let me know your thoughts, cuz I need brakes, and SOON!

very true thats why I'm happy I dont have ABS for the moment

but ABS systems usually arent totally a downside for BB kits- they will naturally help the brake biasing and stuff- something that is a pain for us BB guys who pay attention to that stuff

oh and for clearing BBs... try 17x8s with an offset of around 38mm and avoid wheels with big lips

Theres no garontee of whats gonna clear, you gotta consider somthing over a 17, but somthign with an offset of prob less than 40 but it's gonna depend on the look of the wheel, you gotta make sure that the spokes arn't gonna hit the caliper, or that a large lip is gonna cause that to happen...see what i'm saying.

Stillen 2 piece cross drilled and slotted fronts 13" 4 piston calipers up front, rear drilled rotors...ss lines all around.

Ask me what ever you'd like and i'll be honest.

Thanks bro....did you ever go the slotted/drilled rotors with aftermarket pad route using stock sized rotors or did your first brake upgrade go to oversized rotors/calipers?

My first route was the big brake kit. If you went with slotted or drilled roters factory size with pads and what not without changing the caliper there would be no affect at all on the abs.

Thanks J, I guess I'm trying to get a feel for the worth of going for the oversized front brakes versus just getting aftermarket pads and rotors in stock size.....decisions, decisions! Thanks for your thoughts!

Well only one persons gonna be able to tell you if it's worth it and thats of course you. Best I can say is I am very happy with um. The car stops....quickly. ONly downside I can say is that since I stop so quick I find it really anoying when I end up rideing the brakes when people are in massive mini's in front of me trying to stop for 3 miles...See what Im saying? But if you want absolute stoping power it is worth it. Now one or two piece rotors? Well if you do alot of stop and go and don't want any fade then i'd go two like i have, plus they seem to look a bit cooler in my mind. If not then go one still gonna stop very fast but may fade a touch if you keep stoping. ONly downside to the two piece rotors is it seems they are not treated so recently i developed so corrioson on them between the hat and where the pad contacts...It's kinda odd I didn't seem to have it for about a year then when the car was wrecked and hasn't run it seemed to form, I know how to get it off now but still kinda odd. Aprently the one piece don't have this cuz they are treated. But there ya go a lil info, if theres anything else just let me know here or email me if you want.
