"At-will" warranty - let me vent at Nissan Motor Co.

At 40K miles, my check engine light when on. Dealer said the oxygen sensor needs to be replaced, the one near the exhaust manifold. The issue is coverage. Dealer will do this $250 job for only $50 bucks. I called Nissan, and learned that the dealership indeed is voluntarily taking the hit, and Nissan Motor is not willing to do **** to compensate them, even to pick up the $50 co-pay. I am so mad. I told this bio**h @ Nissan this is my 1st and last Nissan I bought, because of the issues I had with the car.

Try a different dealership, one thing I did notice about Nissan, is the response to the same issue can vary a greatly. I'd give another dealership a call, dont say anything about your dealings with the previous place, and see if they can do anything for you.

For the first 2 years I was very civil to NNA, nothing was ever resolved.

since I thought I had nothing to lose, I vented a few times (still VERY civil). They obviously flagged my records. When I went for warranty, they made me call and beg for service (coils) - right there at the service writers podium thing. was not cool

What's the big deal? You're 4,000 miles out of warranty coverage. They don't owe you anything. They're doing you a favor, because you couldn't do it for 50 bucks even on your own.

Oh, and I'm sure the guy at Nissan really cares that it's your "last" Nissan.

ummm, ok.. youre right.. they dont owe him anything.. that 5/60 powertrain and emissions warranty is an urban myth.. Just pay your money and be glad they took it from you.

Btw, if he says "co-pay" that means he has extended coverage :/ point being that they are charging him a copay, whereas if you just went in under the regular 5/60, you probably wouldnt have to pay the co pay. So the joke is paying for the extended warranty and getting screwed.

Uh, to both of your recent posts, according to my 2001 warranty booklet, O2 sensors are clearly not listed as covered parts under the 5/60.

If anything they are covered by the federal emissions warranty and that only to 3/36.

Not defending Nissan, just making sure we all know what is covered and what is not.

There is no reaming...it is NOT covered under the 5/60. If someone thinks it is, please post link or page number of warranty booklet.

Well a buddy of mine with a Lexus GS has been refused my the dealer to fix a vibration problem. Looks like the Nissan service is spreading.

If the O2 sensor is not covered than the dealer is giving you a good deal. Those O2 sensors can be expensive and somtimes a pain to break loose.

I'm still confused as to why the dealer would do something for free. man, if thats the case, be thankful!

Isn't the 02 sensors part of the "emissions" system? And thus covered under warranty? I thought the emissions systems had the longest warranty. ie.. 50k or something? I could be very wrong of course.

yeah, thats odd.. I should read my warranty again, because I was sure of that as well.. Maybe thats the ECU code warrantied for so long.. One thing I do know, the coverage has changed since I got my 2k. Last year there was one item, I cant remember what it was, they said it wasnt covered. I had it in writing on my Nissan Gold coverage. They tried to tell me that it had changed now and that was too bad for me. They didnt win that one.

here's the deal. I dont have any extended coverage. The powertrain wtty is until 60K mi, the emissions components are covered under 80K mi. My service advisor said that this particular O2 sensor affects fuel/air ratio, (my gas mileage went down, car jerks even more), it is emissions'-related component, YET, it is not classified under neither emissions not powertrain wtty! I am aware that the dealership is doing me a favor, BUT I think the Nissan Motor Co is the one should be picking up the charges. I had 36K mi just 2 months ago, and took a long trip to Canada. Someone on .org said that the Nissan Motor has "unwritten rules" to cover certain parts even after the wtty is over. They just dont want to apply it in my case.

READ YOUR WARRANTY AGAIN!!

The ONLY components covered to 80K are the cat and the ECU.
