How to get needles off of gauge faces?

No no, don't do that. You got to do this first:
1. Pull the needle stops out first.
2. Turn the needle counterclockwise until you feel resistence in the needle
3. Mark that point, that is the calibration point.
4. Then, keep turning them the same way about 5 revolutions
5. Then, after that, keep turning them and slightly start pulling up on them.
6. After a few more turns, the needle will come off.
You have to be careful not to pull that shaft out, as you know. If you do, you are screwed. Once you get your faces on or whatever:
1. Put the needle back on, on the exact same point that you marked as the calibration point.
2. Turn the needle clockwise and install the needle rest back on.

Ok, for the fuel gauge. I've got a 3/4 of a tank but the new gauges had an empty tank. Will the needle "calibrate" itself or do I need to move it to 3/4 myself?

Well, I think that when you plug the cluster in, that the fuel gauge will automatically move up to its position, according to the level of fuel in your tank. If it does not, simply take the cluster out and do what I told you to do in my first post. But this time, instead of putting it back on the calibration point, put it on the 3/4 mark.

I had removed the needles before and I could not get them all right.
Good choice!
