Cig lighter broken

I had a new stereo installed and now the cigarette lighter does not work, I know nothing about electronics (that's why I had someone else install the stereo) so I don't know what is wrong with it. How can I diagnose or fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Remove the lower dash piece and I bet you find it disconnected.

Pull up the black shifter piece. Start from the part that is closest to the armrest, pull up and the rest should pop off.

Actually I don't smoke, but they are useful for plugging in phones, laptops, cd-player (if you don't have one). I would just like to be able to use it. But thanks for jumping to that conclusion. Thanks clee for helping.

I tried to replace the fuse and it still does not work. Any other ideas, it appears to be wired ok when I pulled it out of the dash
