The first thing to go wrong with my car - Cruise wount turn on.
I'm coming home from the gym last night, I had just cleaned up the mess the new dash install made and washed the car before I went. So I figured I'd just cruise around for a bit and visit some frirnds.
I'm crusing down Rt 287, my favorite road to open up on, but I figured I'd take my time so I reach over the flip the main cruise switch on. The switch itself feels funny. It moves over, then sticks so I have to sort of pull it back. Hummmm, thats strange, never did that before. I hit the set button on my steering wheel and nothing happens.
Then I look down and the light on the main button isn't on. So I hit the switch again. It just doesn't feel right, it sort of binds when it moves and of course, no light comes on. So I played with it for a few minutes while I'm trying to drive yet I'm unable to get the system to turn on.
When I got home, I took a closer look at the switch. Well it appears as though it was slightly melted from the heat gun, which probably happened when I was taking that old dash kit out. I'm not so sure how the internal mechanics of it were effected, looks like it's got slight cosmetic damage to it.
So today I'll trouble shoot the system and probably wind up ordering a new main switch for the cruise control. I sure hope thats all it is.

I'm gonna be
for this one...
This morning I can see that the switch is melted slightly, which explains why it feels funny.
But, I realized this morning you have to flip it to the left to turn it on. When you flip it to the right, which was what I was doing last night,
it turns the system off.
So the switch is fine, the system works, it's just that it's slightly melted and binds a bit when you push it.

I did the modification to the cc where you don't have to ever touch the main cruise switch, and love it. Can't remember where I found it, but I'm sure it's on here somewhere. It involves removing a relay from under the hood and making a jumper wire to connect two contacts. The light on the main switch stays on continuously. I wonder if you even need the main switch if you do this mod? Maybe you could just remove the switch, complete the circuit, and fashion a piece of plastic to fill the hole?
On a side note, do you guys find the main cruise switch light to be extremely bright at night? I've actually painted over mine because it's so bright (although there is a small sliver of light that slips through--that's how I can tell it stays on continuously).
