I have about 7500 miles on my Max and the dealer talked me into getting the extended warranty while I was trying to get the right front strut problem resolved (which they didn't fix). They charged me $1399 for the warranty. Is this too much? I kinda wish I didnt' get it now, I don't have that kind of money. But I can pay it over 18 months without interest. How much did you guys pay?

That is way too much. I got my 2000 Maxima and had the 5 yr 100k Gold Plan with 0 deductible. It was $850 for the warranty.

They snuck it in on my contract. First car I bought so I was stupid. I canceled it and got the difference off the amount I owe.

I took the 6/160Km (100K mile) plan. It was an extra 1400$. I figure that if I drop an electric door or window or AC compressor or sunroof or tranny, it's going to cost me that anyways. Either way, I always make sure that the warntee is as long or longer than the purchase period.

I hate having to pay for a car and pay to have it repaired.

I got the 100k extended warrenty with my 2001 SE. It was an addititional $850 tacked onto the final ammount. It ends up being like $20 a month and is transferable to another owner. I figured that it would be worth it when I sell the car years down the road.

My thought on extended warranties: They're not worth it.
Maybe for an American car, but not a foreign.

I got the Gold 6/100K for a nothing..nada, zip.

That is what the rep from Nissan NA offered me because of all the issues I had with my engine mounts. Nice of them to offer I guess....sort of weird though...I got it because of a problem that isnt a problem and its designed to sound that way...huh?

Yeah..thats what I thought...at least it will maybe add a little bit to the selling price of the car as it is transferable.

Didn't get it because I was going to void the warranty when I mod the car anyways.

Extended warranties are a rip off. I would never purchase one, myself.

Which would be considered more? Warranty costs or costs to fix problems? What are the odds of purchasing a lemon?

Well define lemon... to me, my car is a lemon. This is about the 4th thing they've had to fix and there are more coming (cold idle drop, knocking/pinging). I understand bugs in a first model year but come on... Then again being on this board makes me more aware of the issues and gives me more confidence to take it to the dealer.

However since all these issues cropped up so soon, they're all covered on mfgrs warranty. All an extended warranty would do for me is make it easier to get a rental. No biggy there.
