300zx power transistor in a 92 Max SE

Has anyone tried installing a power transistor (AKA ignitor or ignition module) in a DOHC Max engine. The two units look exactly alike and have the same connectors. The dealer is asking close to $400 for the max Power Transistor and Just over $200 for the 300ZX power transistor. I was just wondering if anyone know if these two units are compatible. I am going to try one in my car soon.

I have installed the 300zx power transistor. My car runs normally. There might have been some confusion with the price though. I was still able to get the part at the price listed above, but that is because I used to work for that dealership. I will talk to the parts manager on Monday to find out what a person has to ask for to get that price.

The price if for a power transistor kit(part# 22020-97e25). The kit comes with the Transistor, mount, and subharness. The funny thing is if you ask for just the transistor that is just as expensive as the max. Go figure. The extra parts are useless for the max. Hope this helps.

Didn't you have problems with your max stalling?

Did the transistor fix the problem?

Mine was stalling and my mechanic cleaned both the mass air sensor and the cam position sensor, making sure all of the connections were really clean. He finished on Monday and I have been driving a couple of days and no stalling YET (knock on wood).

I am thinking that was just putting a band-aid on the problem and I am likely going to need to do some serious electronic (ignition) work to it.

Funny thing is. My car hasn't stalled since Monday either. I am thinking it might have something to do with the weather.
Oh! by the way. The transistor did not fix. Still looking for the problem.

have you taken off your cam position sensor and cleaned it? My mechanic thought that was the problem.

I'll have to take another look at it if it starts acting up again. For now I am going to leave well enough alone.
