Y Pipe Bolts Breakin Loose - Question?
Y Pipe Bolts Breakin Loose - Question?
Oh Yes! In preparation for my Budget Y Pipe, I have been soaking down the exhaust bolts with PB about every 3-4 days. When I crawled under it today, to spray the studs, I thought I'd test a couple of the bolts. All 6 of the mainfold bolts came loose very well....including the PITA one on the rear manifold. I briefly tried the two cat bolts, but didn't really have enough clearance to get a good push on them. I feel that when the Y pipe actually gets here, I'll have no problem getting the cat bolts off....I'll simply have to get the car lifted a little higher (and put on some safety stands). All in all it looks good.
OK, here are my questions...they aren't related.
1. Oxygen sensors. I haven't really looked very hard for a connecting point on these things...you know like a plug-in connector that lets them be easily disconnected. Is there a plug-in type connector for these? Do you guys usually lower the pipe and then try to get the O2 sensors loose? Or if they have plug-in connectors, is it possible to simply lowere the whole Y Pipe and unclick the connector...then take it to a workbench and remove the sensors and put them into the new pipe. Any and all comments/suggestions welcome!
2. Anyone on here ever installed a 95-96 Stillen Aero kit. I bought one and use the included double sided tape to mount it. The tape didn't seem to stick very well although I had wiped down all of the surfaces with alcohol. I put the rear bumper/quarter pieces on with genuine 3M tape and they haven't moved. Anyway, I've got a black Maxima, so while I had the car on ramps today, spraying the Y Pipe bolts, I went ahead and applied some black silicon sealent to the mating area crack on the front lip. I then used a couple of padded clamps to pull it firmly into place. I then used 5 1/8" rivets to fasten it even tighter to the front bumper. I then used a model car paint brush to apply touch up paint to the rivet heads. All in all it seemed to work very well and looks great. Anyone else got any storeis about installing the Stillen fron lip?

You will need to unscrew the o2 sensors on the y-pipe before you remove the mounting bolts. Just let the sensors dangle and remove the old pipe. Put the new one in, tighten it down, then reinstall the o2 sensors.
