Do all 2002/2003 Maximas missing fuel pipes cover??

I used to have 2000 SE and on the rear left wheelwell I saw that it has protective plastic shield that is covering fuel pipes.
Now my 2002 Max doesn't have it. I have a question if any 2002/2003 came with that shield cover? I told my dealer and they didn't say much about. I just don't want all the dirt and crap being there when you open the fuel door.

Thanks.

Hey Dany...I don't mean to jump OT and hijack your thread, but your signature has me curious. What do you mean by "FrankenCar Intake w/custom ram air"? Did you run some sort of pipe from behind the grill and have the other side sitting right by the filter on the Frankencar? I want to do something like this if/when I get a Frankencar so I'd love to hear your input. Thanks.

Yeah I had it strange. I remember a while back they had a long disussion here about it, and I think that 2001 and on Maximas didn't have the protective shield there. I don't get why they not putting it there? So much crap and dirt gets in there. I guess I can really tell dealer that other Maximas have it and I don't. Cause none of them probably have this shield.

It was pretty simple what I did. Maybe it is not called ram air, but what I did was to attach a flex pipe I bougth from Home Depot to the front air scoop which I left there when installing FrankenCar intake. And other end of the flex pipe I directed right to the K&N filter. I don't really know if it makes any difference but it couldn't hurt so I decided to do it. I felt that car became more responsive after it, but it just might be in my head.

You can do another thing is to cut the bottom section of the front air scoop and attach another flex pipe that will be going somewhere in the bottom front of the car and getting more cooler air. I know some people that did OCAI did something similar.

From what I recall, alot of the discussions came to the conclusion that snow/slush/ice could have gotten in there and corroded the body metal, etc. Guess Nissan decided it was easier just to leave them off from everything, regardless of where it will be driven.

maybe its a good idea to add also a heatshield with Dany's idea.

isn't there some sort of material we can stick in between the wires of the engine to block the heat coming to the intake so mainly cool air from the flex pipe and from the outside would be sucked by the intake

So the solution is to just clean the fuel door area more often.

Or get the parts from DaveB and do it yourself. I think I got them for like $20.00 (protector and clips). Easy install but you do have to take the tire off the car to get in there.

Simple, just put some clear silicone sealent in the 2 or 3 small holes at the bottom of the GAS CAP area (inside the door), worked for me!

Actually, NOT a good idea. Those are there to allow water, etc. to drain out of that area as well as allow fuel to drip out rather than puddle in that area in case of accidental splash-back or trying to 'top-off' a tank.

We have had 40+ inches of rain since 1-1-03, water DOES NOT stand in there and I don't run the gas over. It keeps the whole area clean and water WILL NOT cause any problems (27,000 miles on car, did it after 1 or 2 fill-ups).

Uh, fine you choose your method, the rest of us will consider the correct way.

Why do you think Nissan stopped putting them on there (salt, dirt, grime). I read about this fix here on the org before I did it, so your "REST OF US" must not be everyone, like you think. If you don't use the fix, don't ASSUME that I am the only one who did .

frankencar was supposed to be making one. He announced the stage 3 kit, as he calls it, with a heatshield. Last I heard he was going to wait until summer to do it (this was back in December or so).
