Hey Guys,
My dad is thinking about getting the transmission regeared while its out of the car for my Exedy/Fidanza install. He wants me to put a taller 5th gear in it. I know that the responsiveness of 5th will drop dramatically, but just entertain the idea.


Also, Does anyone have a rough estimate of the cost to cryotreat a transmission?

My advice to you is just to get your hands on a 6 speed gearbox. About the only way you're going to get a differet gear is to have a custom 5th gear and input shaft made unless Nissan happens to have used different ratios in some other cars. Perhaps the new Altima 3.5 hasa taller 5th so check into that.

 

I had my tranny cyro treated the last time it blew on me. It cost me $50 a gear. The average price should be between $50-$75 for each gear. I was also thinking about re-doing all my gears. But to do that I'll need a tranny from an Altima. I believe it was from the 97-99 or something like that. I don't think you can just change the 5thgear because it's part of the whole shaft and not just a gear like the others. You'll need to get one made if you just want that gear.

 

WTF? you got skrood on the cryo... I can have the entire tranny, case and all, dipped for $100 here.

for maximas..you can put an altima tranny in there..shorter in 1st and 2nd i think..its not that great once youre on the highway though

get 1st and 2nd gears shortened to get better acceleration. That's how it works right, shorter gears for acceleration and taller gears for top speed...
