pinging with 93 octane

I am getting slight pinging and have tried different gasolines, all 93 octane, it seems to happen once the engine is at operating temperature, temp gauge indicator is right in the middle of range.

Any suggestions, car is a 96 and well maintained, has 125k miles.

Could be the EGR system is plugging up with carbon. I have similar symptoms occasionally with 91 octance, but I think mine is related to fuel quality and temperature since I cleaned the EGR just a few months ago.

Have your fuel system, intake and combustion chamber cleaned by somebody with a professional system.

Yes I agree with the last person to speak I have worked on many cars and carbon build up is a major factor....The symtomology is pinging slight loss of power....heads are usualy gunked up with realy hard *** carbon around the intake and exhaust valves this leaves less room in the combustion chamber therefore octain needs to go up...just like decking a head or using a thinner head gasket....In the old cars we would just ad a little (like a cup full)of water down the carb( when it was running) to burn it off it would smoke like a ***** and then it would be back to normal I'm not suggesting this by the way just a little history.

you don't see little amount of blue/dark smoke coming out from your exhaust, do you?

if so, your lifter is worn and gasket is leaking. That is, you are burning engine oil.

Check engine oil, fill up to normal level. This will stop pinging, if the above is the case.

Just grab a bottle of fuel addative (aka cleaner at any auto parts store)and run it in the gas tank for two or three fill ups make sure it's good for fuel injectors....Check all the plugs and tune it up and happy driving

Aren't fuel injector cleaners made to prevent carbon buildup instead of removing what's already there?

I recommend BG44K. Used it a couple times and it helped tremendously. I have a JWT ECU and was having to run 93 plus octane booster to keep from having KS codes. Ran a couple cans through on fill-ups and no problems since. It's good shiet.

I ran a can through one tank, then ran through a couple more tanks without it , and then ran another can through. Haven't had any more codes and the car runs A LOT smother. I have 115,000 miles on my car.
They have another product, Intake Cleaner, that I've used as well. You clean the TB and the IACV with it and then spray the rest of the bottle into the intake in short burst while the car is running. I've been really happy with their products.

Sounds good,, I am gonna run a few bottles through...I did the throttle body cleanout @ 120 k miles,,,it was really gummed up at the plate and behind it, it ran alot better...I can imagine what it's like down inside.....did not clean beyond a few inches past the throttle plate though.

I get mine through a local parts supplier. I had to order my first can through an internet supplier before I found out they carried it. Do a search on google and you should be able to find it. Usually runs around $15-$18 a can.
