Messing with my gauge cluster, Jacked my needles, any help??, please!!
Yeah, I know, I am a dumbass
, I put new white face covers on my dash, and, when I put the cluster back in my temp gauge needle goes straight to "H", my fuel needle goes straight to "F" my idle is at 3K and I am apparently going 20mph, do any of you guys have an suggestions as to how I might reset the needles?
Thanks in advance.

Dude... what the heck did you do, manhandle the gauges?
I switched out a GXE gauge cluster for SE gauges... and I didn't have any problems whatsoever. Were you careful in handling the gauges? And what do you mean you put new white face covers on?

if you check out vsmax's homepage you will see, he has the white faced gauges like mine, they just stick over the top of the oem gauges. I tried the SE titanium gauge swap, but, the SE speedometer didnt work, something about the manufacture dates being different between my GXE and the SE that the cluster came out of.
I hope you don't mind vsmax:

Jakester... yeah, there is a manufacturing difference between a 2k (2Y number) and a 2k1 (4Y number). Of course, a 2k2/2k3 won't work on a 2k/2k1.
Dave B told me the difference between the 2k and 2k1 gauge clusters... the 2k is easy to swap due to the screws in the back. He said the 2k1 is best done with recalibration (only $35). I don't know about putting white faces over... I like the look of the SE titanium better myself (my opinion - no flames invited).
When you stuck the white faces over the top... did you have to jimmy them a little bit? Did you have any play, or I'm thinking maybe the 'inserts' you put on are rubbing against the gauge needles and affecting the readings. How did you get them around the needles?

I actually had to take the needles off to lay the white faces on. with the ignition off the needles all lay against the needle stops, it is only when I start the car that they jump all crazy.
where is the best place to get a 2k SE guage cluster. i have a 2k GLE and i was thinking about just getting the white faces you can stick on. Dont you have to change the chip or something if you actually swap guages to keep the correct mileage

Crap, man... you TOOK THE NEEDLES OFF??!! Sounds to me like when you put then back on, you didn't have them positioned correctly. The needles are pretty darn sensitive and have a 'zero' point. So your needles are not 'zeroed' correctly. I have no idea how to fix them... if you do, just be careful... they were originally all calibrated to have a 'resting' point. I think you should contact Dave B and ask what is best.
redstradic... I got my SE gauge cluster off of EBay. You need to surf EBay every week and see if any gauge clusters are being offered. I bought mine for $150. With a 2k Maxima, the swap is pretty easy... long, but easy. You have to disassemble each cluster and swap out the individual gauges (temp, gas, rpm, and speedo)... which leaves the chip and circuit board with the mileage behind. By transferring the gauges, your mileage remains intact. If you get your hands on one, I will walk you through the process.

thanks MAKSYMALNY, ill start lookin today for one, i thought for sure i would have to do some soldering or something with that chip and circuit board, therefore i was looking more for the white face stickers rather than a whole gauge cluster
