anti-theft advice please

I have a three week old Maxima. Just had the front light assemblys stolen. Nissan has offered to install free their headlight assembly anti-theft kit. Anyone know what the kit is about?

I want to have an alarm system installed too. Any suggestions? Nissan tried the high-pressure sell when I went to sign for the car...... said non-Nissan car alarms would void warrantee. Any truth?

Thanks for any help.

I haven't seen the kit in person but if they'll install it for free then get it.

As for the alarm system, ask your dealership which warranty it voids (e.g. if anything it should only void the OEM alarm) - if they start saying it voids the entire vehicle warranty ask them to put that in writing and explaining how it works - that'll teach them to make false statements

Seriously, aftermarket alarms should not and AFAIK will not void your vehicle's warranty.

You might want to check out the anti theft kit on www.courtesyparts.com. How much does the dealer normally charge because I may want them to do mine as well. 4th of July is coming and I want mine installed before then. You may also want to ask them what sort of gaurantee that they offer that they will not be stolen again once the kit is installed.

Check out this link for article about the Nissan program for installing headlight assembly anti-theft kit. Says $75 plus labor.

My local Nissan dealer on Long Island is advertising the kit for $299 installed. The kit sounds good and the Service Manager said it should make it so difficult to break, the bad guys will look for a car without it.

Replaces bolts with rivits, a special guard for hood latch, guard for door handle (I was told thieves sometimes force a screwdriver into door handle, short the window switch and lower windows).
