Removing 5spd differential...

To anyone who has removed there 5spd differential, does it require any special tools, do you have to re-shim it afterwards? Just wondering. Thanks in advance.

If you remove it, and you do NOT remove/modify the bearings that are already on the differential, then you don't have to re-shim it. HOWEVER, since our trannies come improperly shimmed from the factory, you might as well do it and kill two birds with one stone.

It does NOT require any special tools. To take the actual casing apart, all you have to do is remove the 10+ bolts holding it together. Once removed, just pry the two halves apart. Then just pull the top half up and off the bottom portion. Next, lay the tranny on its side. Have a buddy pull on the two shafts. Wiggling them outwards works the best. While he is doing this, pull out and away on the differential, sliding it out of the tranny casing. Tada, done.........Oh yeah, then cut shims off, put new ones on, re-shim, put back together, etc etc etc.......lololol....;-)
