Throttle stuck wide open!
Throttle stuck wide open!
I started the test drive after fixing my tranny and as I got out onto the open road I found I could only push the gas down halfway. I pushed harder and there was a snapping noise and suddenly the car stuck at WOT and took off like a raped ape.
Unlike so many folks I see on the news who just hold on tight and say a prayer to thier deity of choice I just popped it into N and let the needle bounce off the limiter long enough to slow down and kill the engine. Popped the hood to check it out.
When I reattached the stock air intake to the TB I positioned the screw body of the universal clip at the front of the TB - this interfered with the arc of throttle arm - it couldn't open far enough at first before it got stuck on the screw body - and when I pressed hard enough it snapped past and couldn't return to idle, hence it got stuck at WOT.
I just loosened the universal clip, rotated it so the screw was at the top, and resecured it. Problem solved.
If you are going to remove yur air intake for any reason (CAI, TB Clean etc) then please check that the throttle arm can move unimpeded through it's full arc before you drive it.
And if you get stuck at WOT, then just drop into N, slow down, then kill the engine - no need to panic. Try not to kill the engine until you're stopped because you will lose power assist on brakes and steering, but eventhat is not the end of the world. I heard of a woman in a U-haul who had her throttle stick wide open and she just panicked and steered the accelerating vehicle until she finally lost control in a fatal accident.

Re: Throttle stuck wide open!
Glad to hear of the good ending. I was careful when I put in my CAI to avoid the throttle cable, but still wound up getting in the way. It was about the same situation as yours, wouldn't go above 3k but if I would have stomped it, it probably would have gotten stuck. Luckily I figured it out before I even left the garage.
