how many hours of labor for an engine change

if i were to get a maxima with a bad engine and have the engine taken out and replaced with another engine which i get on my own (both VGs), ....how many hours of labor would that take at an auto shop....the one closest to my home said $1000 for it @ $65/hour...isnt that too high?

Should be about $500-$700.

I'd figure somewhere between 12-16 hours of shop labor.

It really depends on who you have do it. I can do most engine swaps in about 8 hours, and thos are the hard ones. I can change out a VE30DE the 92-94 Maxima Se engine in about 6 and just about any 4 banger in about 4. So you see it depends on the person you take it to.

Steve's probably closer to the truth. I bought my Max with a bad engine three years ago and had a local shop put in another engine and they charged me for 6 hours labor. But it really DOES depend on who you take it to. Shop around... I'm sure you'll find a better bargain than a grand.

I know you can find a mechanic cheaper than that. Most dealerships charge $60-70 in labor.

Atleast you have a VG so you dont have to worry about it to much. Nissan around here doesnt know **** about the VE trust me. Thats why me and MadMax92 had to do the rebuild with out assistance. Let me just tell you that the DOHC and the Timing chain are a BIG BIG BIG(did i say BIG) pain in the ***. But once you get them you can do it right every time. Good luck man. If your near ks, I will do it for you. You help and theres no charge. Anything for another maxima lover.
