Can someone enlighten me on the performance specs of a supercharged 5th gen? Road and Track used to have articles on a Stillen SC'd 4th gen, but their archives are no longer accessible. Also, a magazine came out comparing the SC to JWT's one off turbo kit and Zex's nitrous setup. But of course now I cannot find that either. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Maxima at the max

where should I start? Well, there are several maxima projects. Stillen, Ste, & GR8RIde has another posted. The Stillen can be found at Stillen.com go to car projects. Also check out GR8RIDE.com and search for maxima\articles and is also some info. Now the Ste project was done Sport Compact Car at SPORTCOMPACTCARWEB.COM THE NOV 2000 issue they may give some info. Hope I helped.

Turbo Mag which did the article that shows their version w/ZEX had a 32 hp boost, to 222 from 190. It also had the HKS exhaust and 19 inch volks. The STe has a weak turbo that has 6 psi of boost and switched to 10 psi at 4500 rpm. It had an ECU too, I guess JWT cause they did everything. Bigger brakes and an intercooler. It made 238 hp. The Stillen CART Pace Car had the S/C full exhaust ran at 6 psi of boost and made 283 hp, YES 283 HP AT THE WHEELS.

From what I hear you can look for a 80hp boost. I have no idea what kind of boost that is running.

Hmmm...I was looking through the Stillen catalog this morning at breakfast. In their description of the kit they say Road and Track drove a '98 SMX supercharger-equipped Maxima and got a 0-60 of 5.9 seconds when stock was 7.4. Yeouch...thats 1.5 seconds in the 0-60!!! Can't recall the quarter mile off hand something like mid-high 14's @ 98 compared to 15.5 @ 90 stock. Again a very nice improvement. Of course you cannot just transfer the 0-60 difference to the 5th gen for a 5.2 sec 0-60 (since stock is 6.7), but I bet it could go below 5.5. That is seriously fast. Now I gotta get one for sure. Already planning the other mods to go with it.

As an aside, we used 20% drivetrain loss to calculate power in our lightnings since Ford appears to have under-rated them. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that FWD is more efficient...say 15% power loss. Lets just split the difference and say 18%. Then by using the info given above of 281 HP and 231 ft/lb of torque at the wheels that would equate to 343 HP and 282 ft/lbs of torque at the crank. That sounds kinda high. Were there any other mods on the car? I think its possible with a Y-pipe and maybe some other mods, but thats alot for the supercharger alone.

I saw the review on the Maxima pace car also, IIRC there was a little more than a SC put in it. They redid the cams, crank and cylinders. It was a big job.

that 280 HP is that for the pace car or a 2K SC and that's at the wheels?

OK. I will.

Actually if you look at anyones dyno you'll see that they get about 187-190 HP at the Wheels for a 5th gen Max. The rule of thumb for FWD cars is 15%. so It all matches up. 85% of 222 is 188. so If Stillen's SC Max makes 281 Hp (that's with the SC & Exhaust) that's 238 at the Crank.
That's only 91HP increase, not excessive but a very nice gain considering you just spent over $5,000 for the SC,tax and Install. I am saving my $$$ right now. as soon as they give it a DO Exmp #, I am jumping on one.

Well the SC alone would put out more than 280 at the crank I would hope..thats only 55-60 over stock. My only/biggest concern is whether or not the tranny in these cars can handle it. The Stillen guy I talked to on Monday gave me the impression that the SC is already near the limits of the auto tranny since they recommend no additional mods and specifically state in their catalog that their Y-pipe is not to be used on automatics with a SC.

The auto tranny is not Nissans most solid work. From what I have heard you should get Don's valve body work done.

But this is not an issue for me!
