2k3 6speed tranny - Interesting

Well after about 13,500kms on the tranny on stock fluids,

Its notchier than ever, grinds in 2nd and 3rd, and 1st gear is getting harder to shift into..

Seems like its going back to how my 2k2 used to be..

How are your 2k2/2k3 trannies like?

Mine has ~5700 miles on it w/original fluid. It's actually gotten much smoother over time, and is now virtually notch-free (and no grinding whatsoever in any gears) *** knock on wood ***

It used to be hard to get into 1st gear if I was going anything but almost 0mph, but it's gotten easier as well.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the feel of the gearbox right now. I don't even feel the need to switch to Redline or anything like that.

Not surprising....

Considering I had my OEM MT fluid tested at 15K and it wasn't good, ESPECIALLY considering the 5spd holds 4.5qts. vs. your 2.5qts. or whatever.

I'd change it out IMMEDIATELY if I were you. Amsoil or MT-90, but I've read more positive reviews on the Amsoil in the 6spd..

I have around 11,500k on my 2k3, and after three tranny fluid changes now, the shifts are very nice and responsive. I first started with Redline MTL at a hair over 1k miles, then I switched to BG Synchroshift around 6k or so, and now I have had BG Synchroshift II in for the duration, and its been great.

Synchroshift II is a bit on the overkill side, as regular Synchroshift is just fine, but I am picky.

I've had MT-90 in since 1k and given the fact we have just over half the fluid the 5pds have I plan on changing it every 12-15k.

I have 22.5k on mine, and have had no problems with it. Still OEM oil too.

2K2, 9500 miles. OEM fluid. Smoother than when new. 3rd goes in fine now. Once in a while, hard to get into first, but not a big issue. I'll stick with dino oil when I change. That's what's recomended. There were threads about synchro problems when using synthetic in the 2K2's.

i toasted my first tranny. i had redline MT-90 in it from 1000 miles too.
I used Redline in the second one and it's good now at 12K but i sold the car. The tranny never was a good part of the car. always notchy, never totally smooth. hopefully the G will be better. if it ever gets here.

steve, my brother has a 6spd g35coupe...
they've all been having the same tranny issues...
same gas pedal being stuck issues...
same brake issues...
same rattling issues..
same hood issues

the only thing going strong seems to be the motor =]

MY 2k3 6 speed is blown. with 5000 miles it started to give up. In dealer being replaced this week.....still i think nissan cuts corners on tranny and a few other peices of the powertrain equiptment. the tranny they sent to replace mine was in a wooden crate... when it was opened the bell housing was cracked and part of it was broken off..

hmmmm i'm approaching 15,600 and I never changed this fluid? Should I?? I haven't noticed it getting worse, or better... Actually in this heat I find the shifts much smooother. That's weird.

EDIT
turns out the bell housing wasn't the problem on the new tranny nissan sent. the place there the speedo gear goes into the casing sticks out away from the tranny and was broken off which in turn cracked the entire tranny case all the way around.
