After changing all four tires on my car, I feel a little vibration on my steering wheel past 65 mph. Did the mechanic balance my tires correctly? Theyt are not the stock goodyear tires.

 

its pretty normal for a lot of cars...im not too sure, but i was told that it was just wind resistance or something like that. I had that happened to me too, but after lowering my car it never happened again. im not sure but i dont think it has anything to do w/the tires..i dunno.

 

it could be your wheel alignment

 

When going 60+ you shouldnt feel any vibration, if you do then that can lead to many problems with the joints by the wheels and engine. It can most likely be the wheel alignment as 95emeraldgxe said.

 

My car used to be like that, not after getting new yokos with balancing. It's quiet and smooth, no vibration. I guess just get them rebalanced again.

 

Same thing happened to me. Got 4 new Dunlop A2's (OEM size) and got a vibration at 65 and up. Had Sears rebalance them 3x's and still have the vibration. Was kind of trying to wait for an alignment till I got some HRs and AGX. Well, doesn't look good for getting them anytime soon so guess I'll go for the alignment.

Hope that isn't true. My vibration started immediately after replacing all four tires with new. I mean, when I drove it home that night. I would have turned around then but the place was closed . Next day I went back and they balanced them again 2x's. Still vibration. I'm going for the balance. Cheers

 

GET ALL 4 TIRES BALANCED!!! Get it done at a good shop that has a very good machine.

 

damn same thing with me...i just got some new all-seasons (these will be only winter rims/tires after this winter) and I get the same damn vibration with brand new bridgestones...but never had vibration with two unmatched front tires. Wierd. I spose as they wear it will be better

 

check if the thread on all 4 tires were installed in the same direction.

 

have the same problem...vibes at 70+. been told to check the following:

1.) raise front of car, and have someone push the gas. watch both front tires to see if they move around, etc. if so, then its something with the hubs or axle.

2.) get rotors resurfaced...someone said that theirs had a lip or something, and that threw off the balance of the entire wheel.

3.) if you had them balanced and the store cant solve it, ask for new tires as one of the belts could be shifted (this is not my case though). good luck.

 

Sorry, this is absolutely not true. One, or a combination of the following can cause a vibration (considering i had almost all of these in need of replacement ):

1. control arms
2. cv joints
3. allignment
4. balancing
5. axles
6. tires
7. steering stabilizer
8. tie rod ends
9. bent wheel

Since yours started with the new tires, make sure the tires aren't defective, that is if they can't be balanced properly.

 

I just bought 4 new tires and had an alignment and have the same problem. I hate it when I have more than one thing done at a time, it makes it harder to figure out what is causing the problem.

I was thinking of switching the front and rear tires on each side one at a time and test driving to see if I could figure out what tire had a balance problem, will this work? My car also pulls slightly to the right so I am going to take it back to have the alignment done over anyway, so it is possible the alignment is causing the problem. But I would rather only make one trip back, so I would like to try to find out if there is a problem with a tire.

It is also possible for tires to be 'out of round', I am not sure if a shop can check that though. You could also try having the tire balanced on a Hunter machine. The hunter machine puts a roller on the tire so it acts like it would if the tire was on the road. It also will line up the high spot on the tire with the low spot on the rim to make the tire as round as possible. To have them balanced on the Hunter machine is expensive though, about $150 in my area. My local trade school has a Hunter Machine and I am hoping they do it cheaply but they are closed for the summer

Orion - Since the problem started when you got new tires I think your first step shoud be to get the balance checked at the shop that did the installation.
