Fans staying on after car is off.. Summer is hot!

-im just wondering if anyone has ever had a cooling set up that kept the fans on for a short amount of time(10 min) after the car has been shut down.

-i had this idea cuz my moms volvo does it and i'm think during these summer mounths anything to beet the heat would be good to have.

-i installed a tranny cooler last week. the install was super easy and i would recomend it to anyone looking to help there tranny during the summer.

hey nice idea. but that would only cool off the radiator but not the engine, since the water is not going anywhere b.c the engine is off.

hey chris, time to make that vg work against my ve.... we should set up another si meet.

But it would still cool the engine faster wouldn't it, since air is being blown onto it? I mean, anything with accelerated air hitting it will cool faster than if it just sits there with nothing blowing on it.

izzy yeah we have to meet up again for another SI meet, my VG is still kickin.. (if u ever take a trip to NJ tell me, cuz im there now)
-i think it WOULD cool the engine, cuz it would cool the coolent in the rad. and it would slowly cool off the coolen around the engine, + i have a tranny cooler and it would help too that too

can anyone give any ideas on how to do this?
has anyone ever seen a kit? i know they have water pump setups that stay on for a bit after the car is off..

I'm pretty sure they sell a 12v timer...wire it into the radiator fan and the iignition so when the car goes off the fan stays on for a few minutes or so then shuts off. my Integra has a stock fan timer relay and does this automatically. if that relay fails one day I'm screwed...dead battery.

time to jack so parts from the volvo :P

keeping the fans on sounds like it would help out...i'm curious about one thing though, will you need to block off the hoses to the tranny cooler come winter? i'd like a tranny cooler and i'm just wondering if anything needs to be done with it in the winter.

Actually the thermostate still functions and coolant does circulate (just not as fast).

It wouldnt' be that diff. to set it up, but since chris started this thread I dont think I'll say any more .

I put a tranny cooler on my car in February of 2001. I have never had a need to impede the performance of the cooler during below freezing weather. I just take it easy until the car warms up.

Check out B&M Cooler, it automatically bypass oil cooler in cold weather.
