New guy, saying hi!

Hey folks, I'm about to purchase a '93 maxima for $400, which doesn't go in reverse. I also have an '86 mazda rx-7, which is what most of my forum time has be dedicated to so far. Just thought I'd poke my head in, make my presence known and what-not. I look forward to using your forum for solving problems; everyone loves free advice, right?

Right now, I just plan to fix the auto. I did a little searching here, and found prices around the ~$2,000 range for fixing/rebuilding an auto tranny. Unless of course, swapping for the 5spd is cheaper, and simple. Which I doubt. But if it were, I'd jump at the opportunity. I have alternative transportation, and tools, but not a lot of money right now.

So, which is the least costly method?

Well you can swap to 5speed for less than 2000 if you do it yourself. Maybe even if someone does it for you. Where do you live? I bet an org member could help swap.

There is a company here in Az that swapped my friend's tranny for 1600. Auto to 5 speed. The name of the place is superior racing development.

well, swapping to 5 speed would be nice, but are there other things besides the tranny to be swapped? Like tach, or, hell, I don't know. I'm not sure of all components that might have something to do with the tranny in a Maxima. And about how much could a used 5 speed tranny cost?

I'm in Tallahassee, Florida.

And thanks for the warm welcome!

Are you sure you want to buy the 93 Maxima? Just a few questions: what mileage, what condition - paint, body, interior, tires, mechanical history available, emissions approved if applicable?
