Guys,

I need some help. My wife just told me about a noise her Maxima is making. It is a high pitched noise coming from the right side of the engine (left side if you are facing the engine from the front). The noise is only at idle. If I apply the throttle even the least amount it goes away until it gets back to idle. It does go away on it own also. If I let it sit for about 1 min the fan will kick on and after it runs for about 15-20 seconds the fan kicks off and the noise goes away for a few minutes.

1996 SE Automatic
60K miles
No Mods (unless shaving counts)
I have only had the car for the last 1,000 miles so I am unsure of its exact maintenance history but everything seems to be in tip top condition, and well maintained.

I had a similar noise in the same area got it checked out by dealer ended up being the alternator which was under recall.

 

From what I found that recall was only for the 97-98's.

 

Any other ideas?

 

I also had the same noise. Could not fiqure it out. The car would make on the noise on and off. I had to replace the alternator and now went away.
