Black Cylinder in the Trunk of a 92

What exactly is the propose of this mechanism in the trunk of my 92 GXE. I am building a big sub box and would like to know if I would hurt anything by removing this cylinder and its mounting brackets? If the cylinder is just a weight to act as some kind of ballast in my car, well it sure won’t serve a purpose with a 100+ pound sub box in my trunk, haha

Thanks in Advance

Erik

Has anyone gone about removing this mechanism, if so were all bolt easily retrivable from the cars underbody? I see how the 2 bolts towards the back car are easy to get too but what about the 2 bolts towards the front of the car? It looks as if once they are released they will fall somewhere on top of the gas tank.

Thanks in Advance

Yes, you remembered.

Basically, a bomb was placed in the trunk from the factory, just incase we ****ed Japan off.

Also, you might wanna try searching before you post. Unless you don't mind getting flamed.
