Auto tranny on its last leg.. 2 flush or not?

I'm on the verge of buying a 4th gen since the auto on my 179k 90gxe is krunked up. It likes to slip and not even engage in Drive or Reverse at times. I baby it all the time now and I'm just waiting for it to explode while I'm doing 40+.

Just wondering if you guys think the ~$80 full tranny flush that Jiffy Lube offers is worth a shot to get some more miles out of it. I really wished it would last till 200k but what can you do? Thanks for any help.

Have you checked your shifter bushing? It's behind the catalytic converter between that and body of the car. Like, when you shift from park to drive or park to reverse, do you need to pull back on the shifter an extra 1/4" to make in engage the appropriate gear you're looking for?

A tranny flush is not a magic cure all. If the bands or clutches are damaged new fluid isn't going to help. A tranny flush is good preventative maintenence. It's not curative.

If your tranny is on its last leg. Do not do a tranny flush or it will die tomorrow. You might try a drain in fill, but other than that I would start saving up. I'm in a similar position, were my Max's last owner never did any tranny service. I've got brown burnt tranny fluid and am saving money for a new tranny.
