I finally modded my 92GXE's lights to match my 2nd pair of UK corners

I have a set of UK corners on my 93SE and had an extra set I picked up a while back to put on my GXE. I didnt want to put the BMW lights on the GXE but didnt like how the factory lights looked with the UK corners so I decided to make them look like the AE lights.

I have been wanting to try this for several months but have been lazy and not wanting to pull the lights out but decided to do it yesterday.

They dont look as good as the 4th gens because the flat part of the reflector is smaller than the 4th gens and our lens isnt as clear as the 4th gen either but it does look very nice with the UK corners and I just watched my wife pull in the driveway with her car and I really like the look of them (coupled with the UK corners...dont think it would look good with stock or clear corners). I may even take my E36s off and do my SE lights this way.

anyway enough talk here is a pic.

i'm ignorant. what is the difference besides color? there is no yellow in the UK corners, right? other than that, they look the same. like clear corners. they look pretty good. to me, they just look like darker clear corners. i've considered them with the UK grille as well.

the difference in the UK corners is that they are tinted. They look better than tinted clear corners imo...they also dont come with the sockets drilled out for you to put the lights in and you have to do that yourself.

The difference in my headlingts and others is that I painted the flat corners on the inside reflector of the light to blend with the UK corners. I dont know if you have seen the UK corners on the regular headlights but imo they dont look right because you have a dark corner and then a bright silver headlight. I think regular clear corners look better with stock headlights.

Anyway it blends very well with the UK corners and does so that its almost not even noticed.

well I just have the front lip on my GXE because it compliments the front so well especially with factory fogs.

The whole kit is on the SE though.

The stillen kit is so cheap now and looks so good that a lot of people are getting them now. I dont mind since my car will be pretty much different anyway.

upon further scrutiny of the photograph, i see exactly what you are talking about. great job. very nice. very tasteful and cool. you must have had to take the headlights apart in order to paint the corners. is that a PIA? is there glue or butyl that has to be heated and such?

for the record, i hate clear corners. but your UK corners are nice. they're not visually the same as the "clear corner" aftermarket (cheap) look.

good job.

Thanks, Yeah I had to bake them in the oven for a little while to take them apart (they came apart very easy then). Then bake them again to put them back together. It really wasnt hard at all but I have nice heavy leather welders gloves to keep me from getting burned.

and thats the good thing about the UK corners is that they are factory so they are better quality than the aftermarket clear corners.

I like the UK grill and there are very few people that have it but I think I just like the factory grill a little better. I even like the look of the grill with the emblem on it better than without...at least on some colors.

awsm66,

also, why didn't you just get the UK headlights, too? why modify the stock USDM ones?

what year did nissan begin putting the hamburger logo grille on the 3rd gens? (when the VE engine came out, i bet). i like that grille, too. it is black mesh with the chrome nissan logo. like on a 4th gen. nice.

nissan didnt do a mesh grill on the 3rd gen. In 92 they changed the grill to the one in these pics the gxe got chrome and the se got body colored. That is when they started doing the hamberger logo.

I had a chance to get the UK lights a while back but passed on it. They look identical to ours except they light pattern is designed for rhd vehicles. The main thing is that they use a better bulb but am not sure how much better it would be once you put the US lens on it (so it will shine right for the us highways.

I know someone that has put the UK lights on but am not sure if he changed the lens or not. Cant give a name or he will kill me.

my memory wants to skew it to the mesh grille. but you are right. the updated grille is still the venitian blind thing but with smaller slats. i must *want* it to be like the 4th gen mesh grille with hamburger. i would like to somehow make one of those. that design is sharp. very tasteful. very sport.

you bring a good point up about the RHD UK lights. i read somewhere else something about those. you rekindled the issue.
