Do you have an auto? If so then it's actually not that pathetic. I've got a friend who has one and it's pretty damn fast. Magazines say they'll do 0-60 in low 7's, high 6's. That's pretty quick for a 4 banger.

i seem to recall hearing that those will do a 0-60 run in right about 7 seconds. maybe 7.1. if you're a 5 speed, it shouldn't have pulled on ya, unless he had some pretty good mods.

I'm going to guess that he was spraying. How bad was it?

I was not that bad. He started about a car length ahead of me(we were going about 20mph) and he ended up about 2 car lengths ahead of me. I have an standard an i didnt shift that hard. I had an exhaust and intake...that i know but thats all i know.

Yeah man, didn't you know? They make their peak HP at like 2k rpm's! Ford designed it that way. All low end. Race from a roll next time, just check to see if he's still in your rearview.....Peace_

they make peak HP at 7000 rpm (170 hp) and 145 torque at a sky-high 5500 rpm. looks like no low end at all to me. and the rated 0-60 time i'm findin is around 7.3-7.6, with 1/4 mile at around 15.7. you musta caught him at his peak hp or something. from a stop, should be no problem. unless he was on magic juice

WoW! I stand corrected. I saw the Hp no.'s @ 7k, but couldn't find the torque #'s? Please advise. I need to find that article. I coulda swore they make peak TQ at low rpm's like 2-3? Maybe that was pre-production when I was reading? I'll look....

Indeed... I demand the same, and if he beats you again, we paint my car to look like yours and let you drive mine, then race him for pink slips, he will then lose and we split the profits.

i think the torque figure you're thinking of is that 85% of the 145 ft/lbs is available at 2200 rpms (might have been 2400 i closed the webpage) but full torque does not come until 5500 rpm

I'm NOT saying you couldn't easily get spanked by a Ford Focus if he has mods and/or you don't know how to shift, but have you "Checked Your VIAS Lately"?

I want a rematch!

the svt focus is slower than a ser spec v. so u should have been able to beat him if u had mods and he was stock... i never actually raced a focus but as far as i know it probably is a drivers race stock for stock against a spec v.. spec v has low end ALOT OF IT and the focus has more top end.. the spec v would ruun alittle better than a auto 00 01 maxima and be about evan with a 5spd 00 01 maxima..

I'm not sure about your definition of "about even", but I don't think so. Especially, from a ROLL as in this thread.

No I'm not taking it that way...I'm just not used to those times around here from a SpecV's. That's fast, but not happening here.

A few guys with MODS run low 15's, but STOCK they are mid-to-high 15's from what I've seen.

I dont see how an auto Y2k/2k1 is supposed to beat an SVT Focus. Isnt the auto VQ30 5G Max an high 15-second car at best? The Focus may not have much torque to mention but, it also doesnt have much weight to bog it down.

How much performance do you think you can get out of a Pacesetter exhaust and a Place CAI particularly when coupled with an auto tranny. (still )

and just between us, I doubt that the JL-Audio 12-sub and sparco pedals will do much for straight line acceleration.

Pacesetter SHORT THROW SHIFTER - only find those on sticks. Also he said he had a "standard."

He also said he wasn't shifting that hard and they rolled from around 20. I don't know what that means but I interpret it to mean: a) he didn't shift at redline; b) He was likely in the wrong gear (2nd instead of 1st at 20 mph); c) the guy jumped first.

Of course he's going to lose. Just like the prelude that pulled up next to me last night!

What I meant is that i started in first and I did redline i just didn't slam it into 2nd. You know, i did not chirp the tires but he did get the initial jump on me. I guess i was not paying close enough attention but i still raced pretty hard. Oh yah im pretty sure that the Exhaust-AKA the "short throw shifter" helped to compensate for my "soft" shifting. Instead of shifting hard and having a longer throw.
