I'm experiencing a high-pitched whine while accelerating at 40-60mph. It stops when I let off the gas pedal. It's not very loud - its kind of like a wind noise but it's not. I would guess it's related to the MAF/Air Filter/Throttle Body but who knows... It's 2002 w/ a K&N filter (stock air box.) The K&N has been on there almost a year and this whine just showed up within the last month.

Any guesses on what might be causing it?

Honestly, you've just finally noticed it. I know you won't believe me, but the same thing happened to me after I went from a cone filter back to stock. I always thought the whine was the natural engine noise not being muffled by the stock airbox due to the cone filter, however once I put the car stock, I could STILL hear it, only quiter.

I NEVER noticed it before.

 

Hm... you could be right. Since I've had the stereo out of my dash for month now I seem to hear all kinds of squeeks/rattles/noises I never really noticed before.

 

You'd better come up with something harder then THAT for us to solve.

I don't EVER drive without my radio on, because all the creaks, groans, pops, clicks, wind noise, etc... would drive me nuts.

 

is it like a slight wooshing sound past 3-3500 rpm?

 

A/C? I turned off my A/C a few months ago cuzz i thought my stereo had alternator whine.....well if ya turn the air conditioner off the noise goes away for me.

Not sure - I'll have to look at the tach when it starts happening. I just know it starts happening at 45-50mph. I'll check on my way home tonight.

 

It's not related to the A/C... I killed the A/C and the noise was still there. The A/C makes other annoying noises but this is a new distinct noise!

 

I also have a high-pitched whistling sound from the engine bay when I accelerate, but that is due to the intake which i have including the K&N filter. Since you mentioned you have a stock air box, I dont really know then. Might be anything...

 

It starts happening at around 2500RPM...
