97 mod'd Gs-T
Last night I was heading home from my girls house and noticed a mod'd eclipse GS-T infront of me. I noticed a bit larger, but not ricey exhaust system. (Clearly could see the bigger piping, not just the muffler)
So I had an opportunity to get next to him. As I did so, he reved up and dropped it into gear. I followed in pursuit and slowly walked him from 30-100. We than slowed back down and went from 40-80. Again I walked him by about 2-3 car lengths. We than pulled over at a light and chit chated. His eclipse was a 97, 5 spd., with front mounted upgraded intercooloer, full piping, intake and full exhaust. No boost controller though. I politely told him to get the boost controller, and he would see me fade like a bug in the rear view.
All in all, it was a fun race, probably because it's my second race in my car over the past 4 months. The best part was their faces, they had no idea what they were racing. The passenger wouldnt stop saying, "holy ****, holy ****." (and it doesnt help that my I35 is competely debadged)
Here's what they saw

nice kill. those turbo eclipses are pretty quick... not quite a match for the 3.5 VQ, but fairly close. i raced a turbo talon a while back with similar results (pulled about 4 cars on him tho on a 40-110 run). but having the turbo makes it easy to get a bunch more hp out of that engine with just a few mods. good job tho!

My 95 TSi (same as 97 'clipse GST) is only slightly modded, boost controller, upper and lower intercooler piping, wires, FIPK, no exhaust tho, and it's slightly faster than my '03 Max 6 SP/LSD. About $500 in mods to my Talon.
Stock the 2nd gen DSMs (i.e. Talon and Eclipse) are 0-60 in 6.2, I think vq35 max's are in that range with auto and about 6 even MT. Modding is just a delight with these cars, a lot of gains to be had with very little $$$$ FWD is capable of 13s pretty easy. They'd be capable of even faster times but FWD has its limits for traction.
If you drop about ~~ 3-4k into an AWD, you can get into the 11s and still have a streetable car!
That's why I kept my Talon when I bought the Max (a.k.a. "daddy car"). Great project car. I have it in work today, WOOHOOO, 'taint nothing like boost!!!! "Replacement for Displacment" "Displacement ON DEMAND"

Yeah I have a few friends with those motors that are running wild times. I am fully aware of their capabilities. I just like the fact that my bone stock "sport sedan" beat a mildly modified Gs-T. (although he was missing the biggie, boost controller) I also think that most people would disagree with your 6.2 0-60 time for a stock 2nd gen. Maybe the AWD with a sick clutch dump, but otherwise, no dice.
i think stock 0-60 times for the AWD versions is a lil higher, closer to 6.6 or so. they only have 210 hp... from a roll tho, that advantage is gone. then its just another 210 hp car. stock i mean. few things and i know they take off quite nicely, even from a roll

well i've been messin around with cartest and it seems that a Gs-T is a tad quicker than the GSX, probly due to less loss thru the AWD. as for times, i get a 6.5 0-60 for the Gs-T and 15.1 quarter. my 2k2 in the same program comes up as 6.2 0-60 and 14.6 quarter. give or take a lil, looks like a drivers race from a stop. fun fun!
