Is my clutch dead??

I've had a clutch go out on an old accord but it started slipping before hand, so it was quite obvious. On my maxima my clutch felt "funny" yesterday, it's usually pretty stiff but didn't have the same feedback it normally does, and the gears were rather difficult to engage. Today my car will not shift into any gear, except second. Is this a clutch or a tranny?

-TIA

Check the clutch MS for proper fluid level, check the lines for leaks and try rebleeding the slave cylinder. Check stickes for these procedures

If it's the clutch you can get a few more miles out of it by making a small adjustment on the clutch master cylinder plunger rod. It's like a 8mm nut at the floor board to loosen, then you can lengthen the rod slightly..then tighten it back.

Like 2 weeks ago I had my clutch go out all at once, even more sudden than yours. It sounds like from what you described that it is the clutch. it cost me 450 for clutch and install, let me know what you spend if it is the clutch...i can't help but feel I paid too much

$450 for clutch and install? I paid $850 but I needed a slave cylinder, pressure plate and flywheel machined. It was replaced the year before at the dealer. I took it to an HONEST transmission shop, if there is such a thing.

Well, fluid level was low but that made no difference when I added fluid, the clutch just feels very different than it used to, just in the course of one day, I'll try out a few of the above described things and hopefully I won't have to replace the whole thing...

Well, it's possible that your clutch master cylinder is broken (leaking etc.) Mine just got replaced not too long ago. Clutch pedal went soft, and it was hard to shift gear, as the clutch won't release fully. If that's what happened, then you might have the same problem.

$450 is too expensive, heh. a few yrs ago before i got my hands on the car, my dad had the original clutch go out, his mistake was going to the dealership. was a $1200 + dollar job, with the master and slave cylinders. nissan also jipped us by putting in a crappy key value clutch, instead of a tru nissan oem. i've never had a clutch go on me, what would a slipping clutch feel like. i notice i've been having some problems with this one, like hesitation while disengaging among with it being a little jerky

if the fluid level gets to low air will get in the lines hence the need for bleeding the clutch which will get the air out and all fluid in and it should work it sounds like you have air in your line

sounds like what mine was doing, wasn't a full clutch job, came out to $200+, feels like a brand new clutch

thanks for all the replies!

Er, my trusty mechanic (who sold me the car) did it for $90... parts and labor! Parts might not be Nissan original though. But hey, it fixes the problem!
