bad tranny or getting ripped off?

Hi i need advice from someone

i have a 2000 maxima just bought its a 5speed.

i was driving one day and anytime the clutch was engange it would make a noise

only time it wouldnt is if i had the clutch pedal to the floor

i thought it was the t/0 bearing so i ordered clutch.

fyi- it was leaking trans fluid for a few months cause of the shaft seal, right before the t/o bearing went the gears would grind a bit going from 2-3 or 3-4 i would have to shift at low rpm or double clutch.. car sat for two months after this and now i towed it to the shop and they said i need a new trans and its 1800 for replace and labor ..

advice??

thank you

So, basically if you push the clutch in and the noise goes away your input shaft bearing is on its way out. If its the other way around, I.E. clutch out and it makes noise its the throw out bearing.

Since it wont go into gear either your clutch is toast or the gearbox is toast.

My last trans swap cost me less then $1400. That included a J/Y trans with 89,000 miles, all new seals, new lightweight flywheel, ACT clutch kit, & gear oil. The clutch & flywheel were the bulk of the cost at like 800ish, 300 for the trans, & the last 300 on seals gear oil & other stuff. I also installed a stainless braided clutch line.

I did all the work myself though.

If 1800 includes installing a new clutch kit & seals then its not a bad price I guess.

You could do it yourself & save some money.
