Chrome outside door handles

I have a thread going in the I30 forum about Cefiro parts. I came across something that I wanted to throw out there for the general public. Chrome outside door handles. Not just the handle but the oval part around it as well. I've looked and it seems like with Max's and I30's, only the handle is chrome.. This is just more chrome for those who like the Bling..

I dont know how to change those things out, if its even possible for a weekend DIYer like myself..

So, throwing this out there to get some opinions..

They are very easy to change out. When I had my 4th gen I bought rear handles and put them in the front (so no key holes). Of course I had to make brakets for them to fit since one of the mounting bolts was reversed since the handles were from the rear. But if you aren't changing that, then the handles are easy to just replace.

How to:
  • Remove interior door trim
  • Unbolt the hanldes from the inside
  • Remove bars that connect to door release and door lock
  • Remove handles
  • Install new handles
  • Re-hook all connecting bars
  • Re-install interior door trim
  • Enjoy

I don't have any pictures anymore (cpu crashed). To get the handles I just went to Nissan and bought the already color matched OE rear handles and put them in the front doors. They looked great with no ugly key holes in them and its such a subtle mod that most people dont notice it on the first look over.

As far as the bracket, its just a 1.5" x .75" piece of flat metal with a hole at each end. One end to the bolt on the handle, the other to the bolt on the door. The bolt on the other side of the handle lines up perfectly. Once the door is apart, the front handle off and held side by side to the rear handle, you will see why you will need to make the bracket and this will all make sense.

Now, some people didnt think it was a good idea b/c if you lost the remote (key fob) you couldnt get in the car. But who looses that and not the key or doesnt have the spare somewhere?

Eric.

If anyone wanted to do this (No key holes) with the chrome handles, it is possible, but I need those to be pre-ordered.
