Failed emissions test

I live in Canada and just failed an emissions test. My 92 Maxima SE passed everything but the NOx (Nitrous Oxide, etc) test. It failed with 1700 ppm when the limit is 500 ppm of NOx. Any ideas what is most likely causing this?

Has your car had a tune up lately? Like new spark plugs, wires. etc...

i think one of the faqs above has a solution for this, look at the list of faqs.

Edit: check this out: http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gte671n/mymax.html in the clean egr valve section

if you fail for nox2 its 99/100 times a failed cat converter. If you car isnt running like dump yet it will soon. There is a aftermarket cat for 100$ for the max at warspeeedperformance.com (i think this is it)
good luck!

I cleaned the EGR valve today, but I noticed it isn't working properly. The valve moved freely in my hands when I was cleaning it, but it doesn't move when reving the engine. I also noticed that there was no suction from the vaccuum line that connects to the top of the EGR. Anyone know why?
